Continuing the state visit to China, after concluding activities in Beijing capital, on the morning of April 16, General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife, along with the high-level Vietnamese delegation, left Beijing capital to visit and work in Nanning city by high-speed train.
Accompanying General Secretary and President Su Lin were member of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Committee for Foreign Affairs Liaison of the Communist Party of China Liu Haixing; Deputy Head of the Central Committee for Foreign Affairs Liaison of the Communist Party of China Chen Zhou; Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei and his wife.
At the station, seeing off General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife along with the high-level Vietnamese delegation were a member of the Party Central Committee, Mayor of Beijing An Dung and a large number of officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in China.
Right on the train, leaders of Chinese railway industry enterprises quickly reported to General Secretary and President Su Lin on the development of China's railway industry. Accordingly, as of the beginning of 2026, China's operating railway system reached a total length of 165,000km. Of which, high-speed railways are about 54,000km, leading the world and accounting for more than 70% of the total length of global high-speed railways.
Since the promulgation of the "Mid- and Long-Term Railway Network Plan" (in 2004), in just two decades, China has quickly built a railway network connecting large and modern urban areas around the world, with a connection rate to cities with 200,000 or more residents reaching 99%; more than 130 district-level localities nationwide have railways. China's total operating railway length has increased from 68,700km in 2000 to 165,000km today, equivalent to about 2.4 times.
Expressing his impression of China's high-speed railway network development process, which is not only the longest system, but also the most widely exploited in the world and is forecast to continue to expand strongly in the near future, General Secretary and President To Lam wished the two countries to continue to strengthen transport connectivity cooperation, including railways, for green development and national growth.
Emphasizing the importance of cooperation with China in the field of high-speed railway transport, General Secretary and President To Lam requested leaders of the railway industry and Chinese businesses to share experiences and support, participate with Vietnam in the process of building and transferring technology for important railway projects in Vietnam.
