According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, within the framework of his participation in the high-level joint discussion session of the 81st United Nations General Assembly and carrying out bilateral activities in the United States, on September 21 (local time), General Secretary and President To Lam had a meeting with the leadership of the Communist Party of America and American friends.
At the meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam thanked the good wishes of the Communist Party of America and American friends on the occasion of Vietnam successfully organizing the 14th National Congress of the Party.
General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that the Communist Party of Vietnam values the traditional friendly relations with the Communist Party of the United States; wishing the two sides to continue to strengthen exchanges, share experiences and contribute to consolidating friendship and understanding between the people of the two countries.
Representatives of the US Communist Party Leadership expressed their impression of Vietnam's development achievements over 40 years of Doi Moi, the improvement of people's lives and Vietnam's increasing role and position in the international arena. Delegates affirmed the friendly and solidarity with the Party, State and people of Vietnam; wished to continue to promote exchanges and cooperation between the US Communist Party and the Communist Party of Vietnam as well as strengthen understanding and friendly relations between the people of the two countries.
Sharing about the situation in Vietnam, General Secretary and President To Lam said that the 14th Party Congress has set out major orientations and policies for the new development stage, with the goal that by 2030 Vietnam will become a developing country with modern industry, high average income and by 2045 become a developed country with high income.
Vietnam is focusing on innovating its development model; building an independent and self-reliant economy associated with deep and effective international integration; promoting the role of economic sectors, in which the private economy is an important driving force of the economy; and at the same time continuing to promote the building and rectification of the Party and the political system, preventing and combating corruption, wastefulness, and negativity.
General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam is steadfast in its independent, self-reliant, self-strengthening, peaceful, friendly, cooperative and development foreign policy; proactively and actively integrates internationally and makes responsible contributions to solving common issues of the international community. Vietnam attaches importance to relations with the United States, wishing the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to continue to develop strongly, stably, and sustainably, in accordance with the interests and aspirations of the people of the two countries.
General Secretary and President To Lam hoped that the Communist Party of America and American friends would continue to support the development of relations between the two countries, and at the same time support the Vietnamese community in the US to integrate, develop and promote the role of a bridge of friendship between the two countries.
On this occasion, General Secretary and President To Lam respectfully invited the leaders of the US Communist Party to visit Vietnam at a suitable time to continue to exchange views on measures to strengthen friendly relations and cooperation between the two Parties.
