General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife will pay a state visit to China from April 14 to April 17, 2026.

A statement from the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the morning of April 9 said: At the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping and his wife, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam and his wife and the high-level Vietnamese delegation will pay a state visit to China from April 14 to April 17, 2026.

Vietnam - China relations in the past time have generally maintained positive development momentum and achieved many important results.

In 2025, in the context of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China (January 18, 1950 - January 18, 2025), high-level strategic exchanges are strengthened, and visits between key leaders are unprecedentedly frequent.

Notably, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping's state visit to Vietnam (from April 14 - 15, 2025) and the first time the two sides deployed a "peak" high-level contact with 3 key leaders visiting and attending activities in each country almost at the same time: State President Liang Qiang attended the 80th anniversary of the world's victory over fascism and worked in China (from April 2 - September 2025); Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit and worked in China (from August 30 - September 1, 2025); Member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China Zhao Leji officially visited Vietnam, attended the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, and co-chaired the first session of the Cooperation Committee between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National People's Congress of China (from August 31 - September 2, 2025).

From the beginning of 2026 to now, the two sides continue to exchange and contact at high levels in many flexible forms. Key leaders of the two countries exchange congratulatory messages on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (January 18, 1950 - January 18, 2026). On January 19, 2026, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China sent congratulatory messages to the 14th National Congress of our Party. On January 23, 2026, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping sent congratulatory messages to comrade Su Lin for being elected to continue to assume the position of General Secretary. On January 26, 2026, General Secretary Su Lin and General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping held a phone call after the 14th National Congress of our Party was successfully held.

Economic - trade, investment and tourism cooperation between Vietnam and China in general achieved positive results. In 2025, China is Vietnam's largest trading partner; Vietnam is China's largest trading partner in ASEAN and China's 4th largest trading partner in the world by national criteria (after the US, South Korea and Japan) with Vietnam - China trade turnover reaching 256.4 billion USD, an increase of 24.8%.

In the first 2 months of 2026, China is Vietnam's largest trading partner with Vietnam - China trade turnover reaching 66.7 billion USD, an increase of 30.2%.
