On October 29 (local time), General Secretary To Lam had a meeting with Speaker of the House of Representatives British Lindsay Hoyle at Westminster Palace in London.
According to VNA, Speaker of the House of Representatives Lindsay Hoyle welcomed and highly appreciated the official visit of General Secretary To Lam, his wife Ngo Phuong Ly and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, emphasizing that this visit opens a new phase of cooperation, with historical significance in bilateral relations in all fields, especially on the parliamentary cooperation channel.
pleased with the increasingly good and substantial development of the cooperation between the two countries' National Assemblies, Speaker of the House of Representatives Hoyle emphasized that these are good foundations that contribute significantly to deepening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and the UK.
General Secretary To Lam affirmed that the Party, State and National Assembly of Vietnam always attach importance to developing the traditional friendship with the UK, in which the Parliamentary channel plays a practical role in promoting and supervising the implementation of inter-governmental agreements, while deepening understanding and trust between the two countries.
The General Secretary believes that Vietnam-UK cooperation in various fields, especially parliamentary cooperation, will be further promoted and elevated, commensurate with the level of the relationship, the potential of both sides as well as the expectations of the people of the two countries.
The General Secretary suggested that the British House of Representatives continue to pay attention to, support and urge the effective implementation of cooperation agreements between the two governments, including the Vietnam - UK Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA), the Fair Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), cooperation programs for education - training, scientific research, innovation and human resource development; continue to allocate resources for development cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the fields of clean energy, climate change prevention and community health.
The General Secretary thanked the British Parliament for always supporting the facilitation of the Vietnamese community's successful integration into the host society. The General Secretary also suggested that the British House of Representatives support negotiations and signing of labor cooperation agreements between the two countries, creating a legal corridor for Vietnamese citizens to have a legitimate desire to legally work in the UK.
Speaker of the House of Representatives Lindsay Hoyle emphasized the desire for the two countries to join hands to build a future and the House of Representatives supported the UK Government in strengthening cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the UK's strengths such as education - training, healthcare, climate change prevention and the desire to increase people-to-people exchanges.
The two leaders agreed to continue to strengthen cooperation between the two National Assemblies by regularly maintaining delegation exchanges at all levels, especially at high levels; establishing friendly groups of parliamentarians and promoting exchanges and exchanges between specialized committees; promoting the exchange of legislative experience, perfecting the legal framework, and creating favorable conditions for expanding bilateral cooperation.
