According to VNA, within the framework of his official visit to Malaysia, at noon on November 23, General Secretary To Lam and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, visited the Embassy and met with the Vietnamese community in Malaysia.
At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam said that during his official visit to Malaysia, the two sides agreed to elevate their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The establishment of the Vietnam-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership at this time is of particular significance, opening up great opportunities for cooperation as the two countries enter a new period of development, creating a strong development step in bilateral relations to bring benefits to the people of both countries, while contributing to strengthening the environment of peace, stability, cooperation and economic connectivity in the region and the world.
Regarding the Vietnamese community in Malaysia, the General Secretary emphasized that the Party and State highly value the Vietnamese community abroad, including the overseas Vietnamese community in Malaysia. The General Secretary hopes that they will comply with local laws and labor contracts, promote the image of Vietnamese people, continue to actively integrate into the local society, and contribute to the development of the homeland as well as the Vietnam-Malaysia relationship. The General Secretary also believes that the overseas Vietnamese community in Malaysia will develop more and more, always unite and support each other, while preserving and promoting the Vietnamese language and traditional culture, contributing to becoming a resource to help the country develop and become stronger.
Appreciating the efforts of the Embassy in promoting the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Malaysia, in the coming time, with the two countries having established a framework for a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the General Secretary requested the Ambassador and all staff of the Embassy, representatives of Vietnam's permanent agencies in Malaysia to continue promoting the achievements, excellently completing all assigned tasks, contributing to promoting the cooperative relationship between the two countries to become increasingly deep, effective and substantive.
The General Secretary noted that the Embassy continues to pay attention to performing well community work in the area, grasping the situation, promptly supporting overseas Vietnamese to remove obstacles in matters of residence, business, study, improving legal status, better integrating into the host society, and at the same time encouraging overseas Vietnamese to make many practical contributions to their homeland and country.
Reporting at the meeting, Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia Dinh Ngoc Linh said that there are currently over 30,000 Vietnamese people living, studying and working, mainly concentrated in the western peninsula, in which the capital Kuala Lumpur, the states of Penang, Johor and Ipod are where many Vietnamese people reside and work.
The Vietnamese community in Malaysia is basically united, hard-working, has a spirit of mutual love and support, helps each other in life, complies with Vietnamese law and the law of the host country, and integrates well into the local society.
