During his official visit to Malaysia, on the afternoon of November 21, at the Malaysian Parliament headquarters, General Secretary To Lam met with President of the Malaysian Senate Dato' Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.
According to VNA, the President of the Malaysian Senate was delighted to welcome General Secretary To Lam on an official visit to Malaysia; expressed great importance to the General Secretary’s visit, saying that the visit will contribute to further promoting the Vietnam-Malaysia relationship.
General Secretary To Lam congratulated Malaysia on its positive achievements in consolidating political stability and socio-economic development, highly appreciated the contributions of the Senate and Senate President Dato' Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah personally to the country's development; expressed his impression of Malaysia's new vision and development strategies in areas such as digital economy, semiconductor industry, science and technology while still ensuring environmental protection and social security.
General Secretary To Lam informed the President of the Malaysian Senate of the major results of his talks with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the two sides' agreement to upgrade the Vietnam-Malaysia relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership, while also proposing directions for cooperation on four major pillars and measures to connect and expand cooperation between the two countries.
General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will create favorable conditions for the two countries to cooperate more and more strongly, promote positive factors, effectively respond to complex and rapid developments in the international situation, and contribute to consolidating peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Senate President Dato’ Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah welcomed and highly appreciated the two countries’ upgrading of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership; emphasizing that the new stature of the relationship reflects the strong development and strategic connection between the two countries, which is of great significance at a time when both countries are entering a new stage of development.
General Secretary To Lam asked the Malaysian Parliament, including the Senate and President of the Senate Dato' Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah personally, to actively support and promote the implementation of cooperation directions agreed upon by the leaders of the two sides.
The two leaders agreed to urge relevant agencies to promptly develop and implement a comprehensive action plan to deploy cooperation directions.
Believing that cooperation between the Malaysian Parliament and the Vietnamese National Assembly is extremely important, General Secretary To Lam suggested that the two sides review and negotiate new cooperation agreements to create strong momentum and build a solid foundation for bilateral relations in the future.
The General Secretary also asked the Malaysian Parliament to pay attention to and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living and working in Malaysia.
General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam will actively support Malaysia in successfully assuming the responsibility of Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2025.
The President of the Malaysian Senate thanked Vietnam and General Secretary To Lam personally for their trust, support and close coordination with Malaysia; emphasizing that together with Vietnam and other ASEAN countries, he will continue to make active contributions to improving the effectiveness of operations and promoting ASEAN's central role in the new context.
