Vietnam News Agency reported that within the framework of the official visit to Malaysia, on the afternoon of November 21, right after the talks, General Secretary To Lam and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim co-chaired a press conference.
Speaking to the press, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said that General Secretary To Lam's official visit to Malaysia this time is of great significance as the two countries upgrade their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
The Malaysian Prime Minister said that currently, many Malaysian enterprises are investing and doing business effectively in Vietnam. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his gratitude and hoped that Vietnam would continue to create favorable conditions for Malaysian enterprises to invest in Vietnam and support Malaysia in assuming the role of ASEAN Chair in 2025.
Speaking at the press conference, General Secretary To Lam said that Vietnam and Malaysia upgraded their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
The two sides pledged to support each other on the development path of each country; continue to consolidate and enhance friendly cooperation and political trust between the two countries on the basis of respect for international law, independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political institutions, in accordance with the socio-economic situation and laws and regulations of each country and the principle of non-interference in each other's internal affairs.
The General Secretary stated that the main pillars of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership include: Strengthening trust and political, defense and security cooperation, creating a solid foundation for relations, contributing to ensuring a peaceful and stable environment for development through increasing delegation exchanges and cooperation at all levels and channels; effectively implementing existing dialogue and cooperation mechanisms, and at the same time studying the establishment of new mechanisms suitable to the needs and interests of both sides in the new context.
Promoting connectivity between the two economies: Strive to soon bring bilateral trade turnover to 18 billion USD or higher, in a balanced and mutually beneficial direction.
Strengthening cooperation in developing the Halal industry: Encouraging businesses from one country to expand investment in the other country's market.
Commit to cooperation to ensure benefits from oil and gas cooperation and consider establishing a regional mechanism for cooperation development in overlapping areas, if any.
The two sides will strengthen cooperation in new areas (such as green economy, innovation, science and technology, digital transformation, green energy, etc.) and other important areas (education and training cooperation, human resource development, labor, culture, sports, tourism and people-to-people connection) to realize the goal of sustainable development.
The General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam continues to support Malaysia's role as ASEAN Chair 2025, reaffirming its commitment to closely coordinate with Malaysia and all ASEAN member countries towards realizing the ASEAN Community Vision 2025.
The General Secretary believes that with the brotherly, neighboring relationship, sharing many similarities in culture, history of fighting for national independence, striving together for a more prosperous life for the people; with Malaysia's important position in the region, its status in both the region and the world; with a new vision, at a new height, the Vietnam-Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will certainly open a new chapter in the bilateral cooperation for peace, stability, sustainable development, inclusiveness and common prosperity, for a united, self-reliant and prosperous ASEAN Community.
On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim witnessed the exchange of two cooperation documents including:
Memorandum of Understanding on enhancing trade promotion cooperation between the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency and the Malaysia External Trade Development Authority.
Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation on renewable energy between Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) and Malaysia National Oil and Gas Group (Petronas).
