As of April 10, the Department of Home Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City has received and summarized the plan of arranging administrative units at the commune level from Thu Duc City, 16 districts and 5 districts.
As expected, from 273 existing administrative units, Ho Chi Minh City will arrange more than 100 new units.
Regarding the naming of new commune -level administrative units after arrangement, the Department of Home Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City said that there are some cases of names that need to be considered and adjusted.
Phu Dinh Ward is coexisting in District 6 and District 8; Tan Phu Ward has a name in District 7 and Tan Phu District. At the same time, Phu My ward of District 7 also coincides with the name of the new commune -level administrative unit that is expected to be established in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.
In addition, the Department of Home Affairs asked the People's Committee of District 1 to consider the plan to establish a new administrative unit called "Saigon", and the People's Committee of District 5 considers the name of "Cho Lon" for a new unit.
In Tan Binh and Cu Chi districts, local authorities are encouraged to select a new name associated with the historical, traditional and cultural factors of the region; Priority is given to the name of the existing communes and towns before arranging.
For the proposals for using historical character names such as Vo Thi Sau Ward, Le Van Si Ward (District 3) and Nguyen Tri Phuong Ward (District 10), the Department of Home Affairs asked localities to carefully consider, carefully consider and organize the people's opinion before the official decision, to ensure consensus and suitability in administrative naming.
According to the Department of Home Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, the naming of new communal administrative units after arranging should ensure the following criteria: easy to read, memorable, brief, systematic, scientific, and suitable for the historical, traditional and cultural factors of the locality. At the same time, the name needs to receive the consent of the people in the area.
The name of the new commune -level administrative unit is not coincided with the existing name of any administrative unit of the same level within the provincial or city -city scope, including localities in the process of forming the approved planning orientation.
Encourage the use of old names of administrative units before arranging, or selecting names with historical, cultural and traditional values, loved and supported by locals.
According to the Department of Home Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, the adjustment of the boundaries of communal administrative units to complete the arrangement and establishment of new units can be implemented for localities that really have urgent needs for adjustment and expansion of the boundary to suit the planning and development orientation in the future.
Relevant units should actively coordinate, exchange and agree in writing, and send petitions and reports to the Department of Home Affairs and the Party Committee of the Party Committee for summarizing and submitting to the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee for consideration and decision.

District 1, the center of Ho Chi Minh City, has a natural area of 7.72 km² and a population of 246,155 people. Currently, District 1 has 10 wards and proposes to rearrange into 4 new wards. Tan Dinh Ward: Founded by merging the entire area of Tan Dinh and Da Kao wards. The new ward has an area of 1.62 km² and a population of about 63,348 people. Saigon Ward: Founded on the basis of merging Quarter 1 of Nguyen Thai Binh Ward and the entire area of Ben Nghe ward. New ward has an area of 2.6 km² and a population of 32,198 people. Ben Thanh Ward: established from the union of the entire area of Ben Thanh Ward, Pham Ngu Lao Ward, Quarter 1 and Quarter 6 of Cau Ong Lanh Ward, and the remaining area of Nguyen Thai Binh ward. The new ward has an area of 1.8 km² and a population of 71,785 people. Cau Ong Lanh Ward: established on the basis of consolidating the entire area of Nguyen Cu Trinh Ward, Cau Kho Ward, Co Giang Ward and the remaining area of Cau Ong Lanh Ward. The new ward will have an area of 1.6 km² and a population of about 78,734 people.
