On the morning of April 18, at the 22nd session (special session), the 10th term Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, delegates agreed to establish the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction on the basis of merging the Department of Transport and the Department of Construction.
The new Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction will officially come into operation from May 1, 2025.
Previously, in February 2025, at the 21st session, the 10th term Ho Chi Minh City People's Council passed a resolution on the establishment and reorganization of a number of specialized agencies under the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
Establish the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction on the basis of merging the Department of Construction and the Department of Planning and Architecture.
Establish the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport from reorganizing the Department of Transport, and at the same time receiving some technical infrastructure management functions from the Department of Construction and the Standing Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Safety Committee.
However, after that, the Party Central Office issued Official Letter No. 14020-CV/VPTW instructing the Standing Committee of the Secretariat to ask the city to merge the Department of Cong Chanh Transport and the Department of Construction.
Therefore, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee decided to merge the Department of Transport of the Government and the Department of Construction of Ho Chi Minh City into a Department of Construction.
At the meeting, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council also approved the change of the name of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Natural Resources and Environment to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Environment from May 1, 2025.
Thus, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has 15 specialized agencies, including: Department of Finance; Department of Home Affairs; Department of Construction; Department of Science and Technology; Department of Culture and Sports; Department of Tourism; Department of Ethnicity and Religion; Department of Agriculture and Environment; Health service; Department of Education and Training; Department of Justice; Department of Industry and Trade; Department of Food Safety; City People's Committee Office; City Inspector.
