Vietnam - Cambodia agree to promote early unification of the Project "New economic cooperation mechanism closely linking the two economies of Vietnam - Cambodia".

On the occasion of attending the Meeting between the Politburo of our Party Central Committee and the Standing Committee of the Cambodian People's Party Central Committee (CPP) and the Meeting between the Heads of the three parties Vietnam - Cambodia - Laos, on February 6, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet to assess the results of cooperation achieved in the past time and exchange measures to promote bilateral relations in the coming time.

The two Prime Ministers jointly acknowledged that in the past year, the Governments of the two countries have effectively implemented the Conclusions of the Meeting of Two Parties, Three Parties (February 2025), coordinated to implement cooperation plans with a proactive, drastic, and effective spirit and achieved many substantial results.

Besides the positive aspects of the opening of border gates, the two Prime Ministers agreed that the two sides need to coordinate well in management, maintain security and order in border areas, prevent cross-border crime, smuggling and illegal activities, and soon sign the "Agreement on border gate management" and "Agreement on border management regulations" to facilitate border trade, border gate management, and meet the development goals of the two countries in the new period.

On the basis of the achievements and Results of the meeting between the two Parties, three Parties, and three Prime Ministers that just took place, the two Governments will continue to closely coordinate to promote strong development of the two countries' relations, focusing on strengthening high-level contacts, delegation exchanges at all levels and channels, promoting existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms; consolidating defense and security cooperation; consistently implementing the principle of not allowing hostile forces to use one country's territory to oppose another; maintaining security and order in border areas, and preventing cross-border crime.

The two sides agreed to promote early agreement on the Project "New Economic Cooperation Mechanism closely linking the two economies of Vietnam - Cambodia" by 2035, vision to 2050; promote research to unify a plan to connect the Ho Chi Minh City/Moc Bai - Bavet/Phnom Penh expressway; promote cooperation in trading and processing agricultural and industrial products.

Emphasizing the importance of maintaining the border between the two countries in peace, stability, cooperation and sustainable development, the two Prime Ministers affirmed to continue to coordinate to properly and promptly handle arising issues, including sustainable environmental protection in the border area; promote negotiations to resolve about 16% of the border line that has not been demarcated and marked, coordinate border management both on land and at sea with the spirit of understanding, mutual respect and in accordance with international law.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested the Cambodian side to continue to pay attention to resolving the legal status issue so that Vietnamese people in Cambodia can stabilize their lives and make positive contributions to the prosperous development of Cambodia and the friendly relations between the two countries.
