On February 6, at the invitation of Chairman of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) Hun Sen, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and the high-level delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam co-chaired a meeting with the CPP Standing Committee in Cambodia (Meeting of the two Parties).
At the meeting, the two sides agreed to firmly consolidate political trust, regularly, substantively and effectively maintain visits, contacts and delegation exchanges at all levels, especially at high levels and Party and State channels; consolidate defense and security cooperation, strengthen information exchange, and closely coordinate in the work of preventing transnational crime, especially cybercrime.
The two sides committed to closer linkages between the two economies, especially linking transport infrastructure, energy, digital transformation and processing industry and agricultural supply chains in the spirit of exploiting strengths that can complement each other; strengthening investment promotion, trade, and tourism activities, striving to soon increase two-way trade turnover to 20 billion USD in the near future; promoting the linkage of education, training and human resources in a long-term direction, considering education and training as a bridge to connect the young generation of the two countries; effectively implementing bilateral cooperation agreements and agreements that have been signed, and building new frameworks and cooperation frameworks to link more closely.
The two sides continue to affirm their respect and full implementation of treaties on planning, demarcation and marker planting on land and other border agreements between the two countries; strive to find solutions that the two sides can accept for the remaining about 16%, in order to build a border of peace, stability, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development.
General Secretary To Lam requested the Cambodian side to continue to create favorable conditions, without discrimination against Vietnamese people living, working, and studying in Cambodia.
The two sides agreed to strengthen and promote cooperative relations between Party agencies, the National Assembly, ministries and branches of the Government, the Fatherland Front, people-to-people exchanges, localities of the two countries, especially localities sharing borders, expand cooperative relations to support each other in socio-economic development, maintain security and stability in border areas, and promptly resolve arising issues.
Also at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh; Prime Minister Hun Manet; Politburo Member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and National Assembly Chairman Khuon Sudary all agreed with the major assessments and orientations of General Secretary To Lam and CPP Chairman Hun Sen on the comprehensive and in-depth relationship between the two Parties and the two countries and supplemented and clarified the results that the two sides have achieved in implementing the Conclusion of the February 2025 Two-Party Meeting; frankly pointed out the limitations that need to be overcome and agreed on a number of key contents to coordinate the implementation of the Conclusion of the High-Level Meeting between the two Parties in the coming time.
On this occasion, leaders of the two sides witnessed the Signing Ceremony of the Cooperation Agreement between the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the CPP Central Committee for Foreign Affairs for the period 2026-2030; and witnessed the handover ceremony of 11 cooperation documents between ministries, branches, and localities of the two countries.
