On October 15, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary and President To Lam received Mr. Chang Ho Jin - Special Advisor on Foreign Affairs and Security to President Yoon Suk Yeol of the Republic of Korea.
According to VNA, at the meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam welcomed Advisor Chang Ho Jin to visit and work in Vietnam, highly appreciated the significance of the visit, which took place right after the high-level online phone call between General Secretary and President To Lam and President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol on September 3, 2024; and congratulated Mr. Chang Ho Jin on being appointed as the first Special Advisor on Foreign Affairs and Security to the President of the Republic of Korea.
Special Advisor Chang Ho Jin once again respectfully conveyed President Yoon Suk Yeol's invitation to General Secretary and President To Lam to soon visit Korea.
Mr. Chang Ho Jin highly appreciated the development of the Korea-Vietnam relationship over the past 30 years, affirming that Korea considers Vietnam a key partner in the process of implementing the Indo-Pacific Strategy for Freedom, Peace, and Prosperity and the ASEAN-Korea Solidarity Initiative.
Regarding the direction of promoting bilateral relations in the coming time, Mr. Chang Ho Jin expressed his gratitude and high agreement with the opinions of General Secretary and President To Lam on strengthening cooperation between the two sides in the coming time; emphasizing the message of the President of the Republic of Korea about the desire to become a reliable and important partner of Vietnam in the process of realizing the goal of becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045.
In addition to cooperation in the political and diplomatic fields, Korea attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen and expand cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, and investment, including high technology, innovation, transport infrastructure, and energy; promote cooperation in the fields of defense and security and coordinate on international issues of mutual concern.
General Secretary and President To Lam welcomed the important message of President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol and the opinions of Advisor Chang Ho Jin on expanding bilateral cooperation in various fields.
The General Secretary and President expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the invitation to visit Korea from President Yoon Suk Yeol; and requested relevant agencies of the two countries to coordinate and arrange the visit at a time suitable for both sides.
General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam considers the Republic of Korea one of its top important partners and a priority in its foreign policy, while emphasizing a number of major directions to promote bilateral relations in the coming time in line with the framework of the Vietnam-RoK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam is always interested in and ready to actively contribute to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean peninsula.
Mr. Chang Ho Jin presented the views and stance of the Korean Government, emphasizing the desire to promote lasting peace on the Korean peninsula.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the two sides agreed on the necessity of maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the East Sea, and respecting international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
