At the invitation of South Korean National Assembly Chairman Cho Jeong Sik and his wife, Politburo member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his wife paid an official visit to South Korea from September 6 - 9, 2026.
According to VNA, on September 7, immediately after the official welcoming ceremony at the South Korean National Assembly headquarters, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man held talks with South Korean National Assembly Chairman Cho Jeong Sik.
At the talks, the two National Assembly Chairmen exchanged in-depth views on the situation of each country and directions and measures to promote bilateral relations. The two sides agreed to maintain regular high-level strategic exchanges; deploy a strategic vision on economic linkages between the two countries in the new context, bringing practical benefits to both sides, thereby striving to bring bilateral trade turnover to 100 billion USD in 2026 and towards 150 billion USD by 2030 in a balanced and sustainable direction.
The two sides will continue to prioritize non-refundable official development assistance (ODA) and preferential ODA for Vietnamese projects; promote scientific and technological cooperation to become a driving force for the development of relations between the two countries; and actively pay attention to and improve policies to create conditions for businesses of the two countries to feel secure in investing stably and long-term in each country.
The two sides agreed to expand cooperation in human resource training, culture, tourism and people-to-people exchanges, strengthen understanding and connection between the people of the two countries; continue to pay attention to and improve policies to protect the legitimate rights of the Vietnamese community in Korea and the Korean community in Vietnam, including about 100,000 multicultural Vietnamese-Korean families so that they can feel secure living, studying and working long-term in each country.
Regarding parliamentary cooperation, the two sides highly appreciated the results of cooperation between the National Assemblies of the two countries in the past time; emphasized that parliamentary diplomacy plays an important role in monitoring and promoting the implementation of commitments and agreements, contributing to bringing the relations between the two countries into depth, efficiency and substance.
The two sides agreed to maintain regular exchanges of high-level and all-level leadership delegations; strengthen sharing experiences in building laws and institutions to serve sustainable development; actively promote exchanges and exchanges between specialized committees in direct and online forms in the coming time; effectively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the National Assemblies of the two countries signed in November 2025.
The two sides agreed to promote the role of the legislative body in coordinating the supervision of the implementation of international treaties and cooperation agreements of the government; improve policies and laws, create a favorable legal environment for businesses and people of the two countries; continue to coordinate and support each other at regional and world interparliamentary forums.
Exchanging views on regional and international issues of common concern, the two National Assembly Chairmen agreed to strengthen coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man requested South Korea to actively share experiences, support Vietnam in successfully organizing the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) 2027 Summit; strengthen coordination at the United Nations and effectively implement cooperation mechanisms of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) - Korea, Mekong - Korea.
