On the afternoon of June 7, after the official welcoming ceremony, Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone held talks.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung warmly welcomed Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone to pay an official visit to Vietnam and attend the ASEAN Futures Forum 2026; emphasizing that this is Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone's first official visit abroad in the new term, which has vividly demonstrated and deepened the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion between Vietnam and Laos.
Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone expressed his excitement to return to Hanoi for an official visit to Vietnam after being elected for a new term and participating for the second time in the ASEAN Future Forum organized by Vietnam.
At the talks, the two sides agreed to continue to effectively implement protocols and plans for defense and security cooperation; strengthen coordination in combating transnational crime, drug crime, illegal exploitation of natural resources; and support each other in maintaining political stability and social order and safety in each country and border areas of the two countries.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung sincerely thanked the Lao side for closely coordinating and effectively supporting teams to search, exhume, and repatriate the remains of volunteer soldiers and Vietnamese experts who sacrificed during the war in Laos, hoping that in the coming time, the Lao Government will continue to support the 500-day and night campaign to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains of Vietnam.
Regarding economic cooperation, the two sides focused on exchanging measures to promote the connection of the two economies in the direction of strongly shifting from friendly cooperation to effective cooperation, joint development, taking economic efficiency and strategic linkage as the focus. In which, priority is given to promoting the connection of hard and soft infrastructure, especially important strategic transport connection projects such as the Hanoi - Vientiane expressway, Vung Ang - Vientiane railway.... ; supporting Laos in realizing the goal of becoming a logistics center of the region and strengthening connectivity with the sea.
The two sides agreed to coordinate to effectively implement signed economic cooperation agreements and agreements; study mechanisms and policies suitable to the specific nature of Vietnam-Laos relations, create a favorable and transparent investment and business environment for businesses of the two countries; and synchronously implement appropriate solutions to bring bilateral turnover to 10 billion USD by 2030.
The two Prime Ministers also agreed to continue to improve efficiency and innovate cooperation in the fields of education and training, science and technology, developing high-quality human resources and training leaders and managers at all levels; soon establish the Lao - Vietnam Friendship University in Laos; promote cultural, sports and tourism exchanges; expand cooperation in the fields of clean agriculture, e-commerce, digital transformation and innovation.
After the talks, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the exchange of 4 cooperation documents in the fields of transportation, education, finance, ethnicity and religion.
