Within the framework of activities attending the 80th United Nations General Assembly High-Level General Assembly Discussion Session combined with bilateral activities in the US, on the afternoon of September 23 (local time), Politburo member and President Luong Cuong received Sen. Chris Coons - Senior Member of the US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, Representative Brian Mast - Chairman of the US House of Representatives' Foreign Affairs Committee and Representative Young Kim - Chairman of the indo-Pacific Subcommittee.
Receiving Congressman Brian Mast and Congressman Young Kim, President Luong Cuong affirmed that Vietnam consistently implements the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification, is a trusted friend, partner, an active and responsible member of the international community; Vietnam always considers the US a partner of strategic importance in the region and the world.
President Luong Cuong affirmed that the Vietnam-US relationship is a typical model in international relations, showing that if there is determination, trust, mutual respect and sharing of common interests, countries can overcome the painful past to build a better future of cooperation and friendship.
Appreciating the role of the US Congress and lawmakers in efforts to heal, reconcile, build trust and create a foundation to promote bilateral cooperation, President Luong Cuong suggested that Congressman Brian Mast and the US House of Representatives' Foreign Affairs Committee continue to pay attention to, support and promote relations between the two countries in all fields.
Delegate Brian Mast affirmed that the US considers Vietnam one of the key partners in Southeast Asia and supports the substantive implementation of bilateral relations; the Vietnam - US relationship is a model of healing and reconciliation.
Representative Brian Mast also pledged to support and urge the US Congress to continue implementing its commitment to ensure appropriate resources for humanitarian projects to overcome the consequences of the war in Vietnam.
For his part, Congressman Young Kim highly appreciated the bridging role of the Vietnamese-American community and welcomed the continued promotion of cooperation between the two countries in all fields, especially economy - trade, education - training, people-to-people exchanges, etc.
At the meeting with Congressman Chris Coons, a senior member of the US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, President Luong Cuong highly appreciated the role of Congressman Chris Coons as well as generations of US Congressmen in healing the wounds of war, promoting bilateral relations, especially in the field of overcoming the consequences of war and providing humanitarian assistance.

Appreciating the strength of the state of Delaware in the fields of biotechnology, high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, and pharmaceuticals, President Luong Cuong suggested that Senator Chris Coons promote cooperation between the two countries as well as between the state of Delaware and localities of Vietnam in these fields.
For his part, Senator Chris Coons emphasized that the US Senate strongly supports promoting increased cooperation across all channels and fields, especially economy - trade, addressing the consequences of war, education - training, etc.
Senator Chris Coons also highly appreciated the role of Fulbright University Vietnam in promoting training cooperation between the two countries, thereby contributing to supporting Vietnam in making a breakthrough in training high-quality human resources.
