According to VNA, speaking in greetings, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foreign Policy Association (USA) Henry Fernandez expressed his pleasure to welcome General Secretary and President To Lam to deliver a policy speech at the Association.
On this occasion, Chairman of the Board of Directors Henry Fernandez awarded General Secretary and President To Lam the Medal of the Foreign Policy Association (USA).
Speaking here, General Secretary and President To Lam respectfully thanked the Association for awarding the Association's Medal, honoring the spirit of responsible internationalism. This is also a recognition of the contributions of the Party, State and People of Vietnam to peace, cooperation and development in the world as well as the Vietnam-US friendship.
Looking at the history of Vietnam-US bilateral relations, General Secretary and President To Lam clearly stated the value of the spirit of responsibility. To become a comprehensive strategic partner as today, the two countries have had to overcome losses, differences and lack of trust. The big lesson from that journey is that the spirit of responsibility and mutual respect can help countries overcome deep differences.
Emphasizing the major directions in the relationship between the two countries, General Secretary and President To Lam stated clearly that, first of all, the two countries maintain the momentum of relations, creating a stable and long-term political foundation truly worthy of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership relationship.
Vietnam is ready to work with the US to strengthen delegation exchanges, high-level contacts and levels; wishes to improve the effectiveness of dialogue mechanisms, frank and sincere exchanges with the US on issues of common concern, and persistently handle differences satisfactorily. National defense and security cooperation needs to continue to develop in accordance with the needs, capabilities, policies and interests of each party, contributing to regional peace and stability.
The General Secretary and President said that Vietnam and the US need to deepen economic - trade - investment cooperation, creating new value. The two countries complement each other in terms of markets, resources and technology; turning the complement into business opportunities, jobs and practical benefits for businesses, farmers, workers and consumers of the two countries.
Vietnam values and is ready to exchange views on US concerns related to trade balance, market access, origin of goods, intellectual property and supply chain safety; wishes the two sides to ensure a stable and predictable trade environment; and facilitate each other's goods, services and investment.
The General Secretary and President wished that the two countries would focus on cooperating in training semiconductor engineers and AI experts; connecting research between universities, research institutes and businesses to bring research results into production; and improving the capacity of Vietnamese businesses to participate in the technology supply chain.
Vietnam will continue to improve institutions, protect the legitimate rights and interests of investors, improve the effectiveness of intellectual property protection, data security and network security. Attach importance to consistency in policy implementation, listen to and promptly resolve difficulties of businesses.
General Secretary and President To Lam said that Vietnam is steadfast in its independent, self-reliant, self-strengthening, peaceful, friendly, cooperative and development foreign policy; multilateralizing and diversifying foreign relations; being a friend, a reliable partner, and an active and responsible member of the international community.
Faced with the changes of today's world, Vietnam is determined to maintain strategic autonomy, enhance self-reliance, and expand space to promote sincere and substantive friendly cooperation relations with all countries.
