According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, sharing about the high-level discussion session of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the General Secretary and President said that after 40 years of Doi Moi, Vietnam has become a country with an increasingly high position in the international arena, making increasingly strong contributions to peace, stability, and development of the region and the world.
To achieve strategic goals, Vietnam is steadfast in its independent, self-reliant and strategically autonomous path; establishing a new development model based on science, technology, innovation, digital transformation and high-quality human resources.
Regarding the development situation of Vietnam-US relations, General Secretary and President To Lam said that Vietnam considers the US as one of the most strategically important partners; the US continues to affirm its support for a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam.
Vietnam-US relations have made clear and substantial progress, in which economy - trade - investment continues to be an important driving force; scientific and technological cooperation, innovation, semiconductor, artificial intelligence, and education - training are increasingly expanding.
Cooperation to overcome the consequences of war continues to be an important foundation to help build and strengthen trust, from searching for missing US soldiers, detoxifying dioxin, clearing bombs and mines, supporting people with disabilities. Vietnam appreciates the US's companionship in the 500-day and night campaign to search, repatriate and identify the remains of Vietnamese martyrs.
The General Secretary and President also pointed out that in a relationship with increasing scale and level of connection, differences, especially in the field of economy and trade, are inevitable. It is important that the two sides continue to handle these issues through frank and constructive dialogue and in the overall Comprehensive Strategic Partnership relationship.
Regarding foreign affairs, the General Secretary and President said that foreign affairs priorities change according to the requirements of each stage, but Vietnam's steadfast and consistent policy is independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, peace, friendship, cooperation, multilateralization, and diversification. Vietnam identifies foreign affairs priorities based on national and ethnic interests and the development requirements of the country.
With each partner, Vietnam always identifies similarities, complementary strengths, to jointly create more room for development, jointly create new values and jointly solve the problems posed. Vietnam also strengthens connections with businesses, technology corporations, universities, research institutes and innovation centers. Along with that, a strategic priority is to create motivation for the country's development goals.
When asked about the GDP growth target of an average of over 10% per year in the period 2026-2030, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that Vietnam has researched and carefully considered this target.
Vietnam identifies science and technology, innovation and digital transformation as strategic breakthroughs, as the core driving force for developing new production forces, improving national competitiveness, and the self-reliance of the economy.
At the same time, Vietnam considers cultural and human development as a foundation, an important endogenetic resource and a driving force for development. Vietnam also focuses on ensuring sustainability, inclusiveness, building a progressive and civilized society, protecting the environment, maintaining political stability, consolidating national defense and security, and firmly protecting national sovereignty.
