Vietnam supports the Government of Myanmar to continue implementing measures to promote stability

On September 5, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung met with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing on the occasion of his official visit to Vietnam from September 4-6, 2026.

Politburo member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung welcomed President Min Aung Hlaing to visit Vietnam for the first time in his new position; emphasizing that the visit demonstrates the determination of the Governments of the two countries to cooperate closely and deepen bilateral cooperation in all fields.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung congratulated Myanmar on achieving important results in managing and operating the country in the past time under the leadership of President Min Aung Hlaing; affirmed that Vietnam supports the Government of Myanmar to continue to implement measures to promote stability, reconciliation, dialogue, economic development and improve people's lives; believes that Myanmar will continue to achieve positive results, solve socio-economic problems; expand foreign relations.

President Min Aung Hlaing thanked the solemn reception of the Vietnamese High-Level Leaders for the delegation; congratulated Vietnam's important achievements, and shared his desire to learn from Vietnam's socio-economic development experience.

The two leaders agreed to strengthen political trust, promote high-level and all-level contacts; coordinate and comprehensively promote cooperation across all Party, State, Government, National Assembly and people-to-people diplomacy channels in the new period, promote the early resumption of important cooperation mechanisms, and create new momentum for the Vietnam - Myanmar Comprehensive Cooperation Partnership.

The two sides agreed to strengthen promoting and making defense and security cooperation a pillar of bilateral cooperation.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and President Min Aung Hlaing agreed that the two countries still have a lot of potential that can be exploited and complemented, it is necessary to strengthen exchange of orientations and measures to promote trade turnover growth between the two countries; review and update commitments and cooperation agreements in the fields of trade, investment, and customs.

The Prime Minister welcomed the organization of the Business Forum by the two sides, requested the Government of Myanmar to continue to create favorable conditions and resolve difficulties and obstacles for Vietnamese businesses, and said that the Government of Vietnam is ready to encourage businesses to invest in fields that Myanmar is currently interested in. The President of Myanmar affirmed that he will continue to support Vietnamese businesses operating in Myanmar, emphasizing the desire for Vietnam to strengthen investment expansion in Myanmar.

The two leaders also agreed to comprehensively promote cooperation in other fields, especially connecting infrastructure, air transport, promoting cooperation in education, culture, people-to-people exchanges, and local connections, in order to foster feelings and understanding between the people of the two countries.

Regarding regional cooperation, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung highly appreciated the efforts of the Myanmar government in promoting peace, stability, and reconciliation; emphasized that Vietnam will coordinate with ASEAN member countries to maintain contact and promote constructive dialogue with Myanmar. The two sides shared their views in supporting peaceful resolution of disputes on the basis of international law, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung invited President Min Aung Hlaing to Vietnam to attend the CLMV Summit and chair the ACMECS Summit in November 2026 in Hanoi. The President of Myanmar also respectfully invited Prime Minister Le Minh Hung to visit Myanmar at an appropriate time.
