In a speech to the press on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the diplomatic sector (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2025), Party Central Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son affirmed: "Throughout the 80 years of building and growing, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vietnamese diplomacy has overcome many difficulties and challenges, constantly promoting the glorious tradition, serving the Fatherland, serving the people, contributing to the great victories in the revolutionary cause of the nation".
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out that Vietnam's diplomacy was born and matured during the 30 years of resistance and has grown strongly during the 40 years of renovation. Having been delayed and tested during the most difficult periods in the history of the Vietnamese revolution, it has left Vietnamese diplomacy with many valuable lessons.
That is the lesson of ensuring the highest, above all and above all the interests of the nation - people. That is also a lesson in combining internal strength with external strength, combining national strength with the strength of the times to create a great combined strength, thereby mobilizing huge support both materially and spiritually of progressive humanity supporting Vietnam...
"These lessons have contributed to the formation of core values to create a diplomacy imbued with national identity and Vietnamese people. That is a diplomacy that is always for the benefit of the nation - people, serving the country, serving the people; a diplomacy that is brave, resilient but soft, and skillful; carrying the spirit of maturity, courage, and intelligence of the Vietnamese people that has been fostered over thousands of years of history. At the same time, Vietnamese diplomacy also has a harmonious combination of national and international factors, both receiving the quintessence from the outside and actively and responsibly contributing to world politics, the global economy and human civilization" - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son affirmed.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs pointed out that after nearly 40 years of Doi Moi, Vietnam has achieved great achievements of historical significance.With the new position and strength of the country, the Vietnamese diplomatic sector is expected to further promote its role, contributing to the country's development in the new era.As General Secretary To Lam emphasized, "in the new era, the era of national growth, Vietnamese diplomacy must reach new heights to fulfill new glorious responsibilities, worthy of being the pioneering army, the combined army of the Vietnamese revolution".
"That requires diplomacy to constantly innovate, further elevating both thinking and action" the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son pointed out that, firstly, foreign affairs need to promote their pioneering, important, and regular role in creating and consolidating a favorable foreign situation, implementing three foreign policy goals: security, development, and enhancing the country's position.
Second, through economic diplomacy activities and scientific and technological diplomacy, foreign affairs play a role in paving the way, seizing opportunities, resolving challenges, creating new development momentum for the country, effectively combining internal and external forces.
Third, constantly enhance Vietnam's contribution to peace, cooperation, development and progress of humanity.
Fourth, promote the "soft power" of the nation, increase the image and position of Vietnam in the international arena commensurate with the historical and cultural stature, political and economic position of the country.
Fifth, building a comprehensive, modern and professional foreign affairs and diplomacy of Vietnam, meeting the requirements and tasks of the new era, on par with the region and reaching international standards.
