According to the Traffic Police Department, at 5:45 a.m. on September 9, 2024, at km180+680 of National Highway 34 in Ca Thanh Commune, Nguyen Binh District, Cao Bang Province, a landslide occurred, burying and sweeping away 1 passenger car, 2 cars and several motorbikes. By noon on September 12, 2024, authorities had found 21 bodies around the area where the passenger car was swept away by the flood.
Immediately upon receiving information about the accident, identifying the passenger car owner as a customer participating in compulsory civil liability insurance for motor vehicle owners at BIC, BIC staff quickly coordinated with the customer and related parties to collect information and documents related to the accident.
Faced with the huge loss of life in the landslide, in order to demonstrate the responsibility of the insurance company to its customers, BIC quickly made an advance payment for civil liability compensation for passengers in the vehicle in the above accident with the highest advance payment equal to 30% of the insurance compensation level prescribed in Decree 67/2023/ND-CP dated September 6, 2023 on compulsory civil liability insurance of motor vehicle owners in cases where it has not been determined that the accident is within the scope of compensation for damages.
BIC also worked closely with the car owner to quickly deliver the advance payment to the families of the landslide victims.
Currently, BIC is continuing to work with the vehicle owner and the authorities to determine the exact number of victims to make advance payments and timely compensation. In case the victim is not a passenger on the bus, BIC will coordinate with the vehicle owner and the victim's family to work with the Vietnam Insurance Association to receive timely support from the Motor Vehicle Insurance Fund.
