TKV prepares to start construction of Quang Tri Coal Transit, Processing and Trading Warehouse Project

Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (TKV) coordinates with Quang Tri province to accelerate the implementation of the Coal Transshipment, Processing and Trading Warehouse Project.

On August 27, information from TKV Group said that in Quang Tri province, Party Secretary, Chairman of the Member Council of TKV Group Ngo Hoang Ngan and the TKV working delegation worked with the Standing Committee of Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee on the implementation of the Quang Tri Coal Transshipment, Processing and Trading Warehouse Project.

Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Quang Tri Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Phuong chaired the working program. Attending were Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh; Member of the Standing Committee, Chief of the Provincial Party Committee Office Le Vinh The, along with leaders of departments, branches and related units of the province.

Quang Tri Coal Transshipment, Processing and Trading Warehouse project proposed by Northern Coal Trading Joint Stock Company - Vinacomin to invest in My Thuy commune, belonging to Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone, with a total estimated investment of more than 428 billion VND and a land use area of about 25.6ha.

The project is invested to receive coal imported from Laos and other import sources; organize mixing, processing, storage and transshipment of coal to supply to thermal power plants and consumers in the Central and Southern regions. The main items include coal warehouse premises, traffic road system and conveyor belt connecting to My Thuy Port.

According to the expected plan, the project's capacity in the initial phase will reach about 7 million tons of coal/year. In case of undertaking the additional task of supplying coal to Quang Tri Thermal Power Plant, the total capacity can be increased to about 9 million tons/year. The project will contribute to improving logistics capacity, strengthening the ability to receive, process and transship coal, serving the energy needs of the Central and Southern regions.

Up to now, the project has been updated and adjusted to be consistent with relevant plans and has been approved for investment policy by the Member Council of TKV Group. Northern Coal Trading Joint Stock Company - Vinacomin has submitted project implementation proposals to the Quang Tri Provincial Economic Zone Management Board. TKV aims to complete the necessary procedures to be able to start the project in January 2027.

To ensure progress, Chairman of TKV Group Ngo Hoang Ngan requested Quang Tri province to continue to pay attention, coordinate and support to accelerate procedures for investment policy approval, detailed planning at a scale of 1/500, appraisal of feasibility study reports; and at the same time remove contents related to environment, fire prevention and fighting, land and site clearance.

At the working program, leaders of Quang Tri province, TKV and related departments, branches, and units exchanged and clarified issues related to planning, location, land use scale, investment procedures and coordination responsibilities in the project implementation process.

Concluding the working program, Quang Tri Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Van Phuong affirmed that the province is interested, wishes and expects the Quang Tri Coal Transshipment, Processing and Trading Warehouse Project to be implemented soon. The Provincial Party Secretary requested the Provincial Economic Zone Management Board to proactively coordinate closely with TKV and relevant departments and branches, promptly remove difficulties, accelerate procedures under their authority, and ensure compliance with the provisions of law.

At the same time, it is proposed that TKV proactively prepare sufficient resources, technology and implementation plans. The project is expected to promote the advantages of My Thuy Port and Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone, gradually develop transshipment, processing and service activities associated with seaports, making positive contributions to the socio-economic development of the province and ensuring national energy security.
