World gold price
Recorded at 8:55 PM on August 20, world gold prices were listed around the threshold of 4,482.7 USD/ounce, up 112.1 USD.

Gold price forecast
Gold prices are facing opposite pulls as more positive US economic data than expected somewhat reduces interest rate expectations, while geopolitical tensions continue to maintain safe-haven demand.
In the trading session on August 20, world gold prices at one point retreated to around 4,454.7 USD/ounce, down about 1.5%. This development appeared after the precious metal just had a strong increase session, surpassing the 4,500 USD/ounce mark.
Adjustment pressure comes from a series of new US data. The number of initial jobless claims in the week ending August 15 fell to 206,000, lower than the forecast of 210,000. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia regional manufacturing index in August rose to 47.4 points, significantly higher than the previous month's 41.4 points and far exceeding market expectations.
The above data shows that the US labor market and manufacturing activity still have resilience. This may make the US Federal Reserve (Fed) more cautious about easing monetary policy, especially in the context that the minutes of the most recent meeting show that some officials are willing to consider raising interest rates if inflation does not cool down.
The yield of 10-year US government bonds is currently fluctuating around 4.7%, continuing to be a factor putting pressure on gold. Investors are also waiting for preliminary PMI data from the US to better assess economic prospects and the direction of monetary policy.
However, the possibility of a sharp drop in gold prices is still limited by geopolitical risks in the Middle East. Tensions related to the Strait of Hormuz are causing oil prices to remain high, with Brent oil around 93.9 USD/barrel and WTI near 86.72 USD/barrel. High energy prices increase the risk of inflation, but also stimulate demand for safe-haven assets.
Technically, the 4,447 USD/ounce zone is becoming a noteworthy support threshold for gold. If this zone is lost, the price may fall back to 4,320 USD/ounce, further to 4,228 USD/ounce. In the opposite direction, if buying force returns and the price exceeds 4,595 USD/ounce, the next target may be aimed at the 4,778 USD/ounce zone.
In the short term, gold prices are likely to continue to fluctuate strongly as the market balances between pressure from bond yields, US economic data and safe-haven demand before geopolitical risks.
