Gold price forecast
The fact that world gold prices lost the 4,400 USD/ounce mark shows that adjustment pressure has not ended. After a period of rapid increase to the highest level for more than 3 months, increased profit-taking and changes in monetary policy expectations are causing the precious metal to enter a period of stronger fluctuations.
In the short term, the 4,400 USD/ounce mark was once considered an important psychological support zone. Prices breaking through this threshold may increase cautious sentiment, especially if bottom-fishing buying power does not appear strong enough. The market is therefore likely to continue to experience increasing and decreasing sessions with large amplitudes before establishing a new balance zone.
However, the current decrease does not mean that the long-term uptrend of gold has ended. Before the adjustment at the end of August, gold prices once increased to nearly 4,700 USD/ounce and in general in the month still recorded a significant increase. After a period of rapid upwards, profit-taking and price level re-accumulation are common developments.
Some fundamental factors are also continuing to support medium and long-term prospects. Gold holdings at ETF funds have shown signs of recovery from the low in July. From about 96.2 million ounces, gold holdings at funds increased to 98.9 million ounces, equivalent to about 2.8%. This development shows that investment capital has not completely withdrawn from the market.
In addition, the demand for gold from central banks remains high. In the first half of 2026, the amount of gold purchased reached about 345 tons. Although the purchase rate is slower than some previous periods, this is still an important source of demand in the context that many central banks continue to diversify reserves and reduce risks from currency fluctuations.
Technically, gold prices previously still maintained above the 200-day moving average with the upward trend of this average. This is a signal that the long-term upward structure has not been completely broken.
In the coming sessions, the possibility of regaining the 4,400 USD/ounce mark will be a noteworthy sign. If it recovers quickly above this zone, buying power may return and help prices stabilize more. Conversely, if it continues to be maintained below 4,400 USD/ounce, selling pressure may continue and the market needs more time to find a new balanced zone.
