Coming to a small house in An Binh commune, Long Ho district, we could not help but feel heartbroken by the situation of a poor couple who are both suffering from physical illness and are in their late teens.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong (born in 1970, residing in An Thanh Hamlet, An Binh Commune, Long Ho District) said that she is facing stage 2 cervical cancer.
According to Ms. Phuong, in September 2024, she began to show signs of streptococcus. At first, she thought it was a sign of premenopausal symptoms, but when her condition did not improve and her health was exhausted, Ms. Phuong went to the hospital for examination and was transferred to the Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital.
At this time, she was extremely shocked when the doctor informed her of stage 2 cervical cancer. After that, she had to undergo 5 chemotherapy sessions and 28 x-ray radiotherapy. However, after 2 months of treatment, the tumor was reduced by only 3%.
Ms. Phuong also confided that her body did not respond well to the drug, causing the tumor to not decrease much. After a recent follow-up visit, the doctor asked her to start treatment.
"We have a treatment schedule but we may have to stop because we no longer have funds. Previous chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions, after deducting health insurance, cost about 40 million VND. I had to borrow this money from relatives but until now I still haven't been able to repay it," Ms. Phuong sadly shared.

Ms. Tran Thi Hoa - Ms. Phuong's neighbor - said that Ms. Phuong and her husband have no children, and their lives mainly depend on 2,000m2 of land previously rented for growing longan.
According to Ms. Hoa, about 2 years ago, Ms. Phuong's husband suffered from meningitis, leading to deafness and poor health, and being unable to continue working.
'Currently, the family's longan garden is the only hope to help her have money to continue treatment, but because the harvest time has not yet come, Ms. Phuong does not have money to treat the disease according to the doctor's prescription'', Ms. Hoa added.
Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Huynh Tan Phong - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of An Binh Commune - said that Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuong's family is facing many difficulties. Her husband is no longer able to work, and she has a serious illness.
The local government has supported Ms. Phuong's family with some necessities, but currently, Ms. Phuong still needs help from the community to continue treating her illness and overcome the difficult period.
"Every contribution, no matter how small, will help you ease the financial burden and have the opportunity to continue to receive treatment according to the regimen to save your life", Mr. Phong emphasized.
