At the age of 9, Thi Khanh Bang should have lived fully with her innocent childhood, went to school, and played with her friends. However, in the past few months, he has had to fight against early-onset cancer, a arduous journey with tiring chemotherapy, and swollen, painful eyes.
The child's innocent, bright eyes were no longer intact, but she still stood firmly fighting and not giving up. In a small house in group 6, An Khuong hamlet, Chau Thanh commune, An Giang province - a determined girl still looks forward to the upcoming school days. Seeing old notebooks, everyone felt sorry for the girl when her school days were approaching but her family still could not buy her a new set of textbooks or a white shirt to go to school.
Ms. Thi Khanh Bang shared: "This year I am in grade 4, although my eyesight is not as good as before, I will try to study, because my grandparents love me very much, parents work hard to earn money to treat my child, so I cannot give up".
"I want to grow up and finish my studies and work, have money to take care of my grandparents and parents because everyone has a hard time raising and taking care of their children," Bang said.
Mrs. Thi Le, Bang's grandmother, choked up as she said that her grandchild had bright eyes but since March. In 2025, bestate cancer has stolen light from the left eye. The child had to wear an artificial eye bag to prevent the tumor from spreading. Every month, Bang has to go to Ho Chi Minh City for chemotherapy, each trip costs about 3 million VND even though he has saved all his money. Bang's mother works as a worker with a salary of about 5 million VND/month, while his father works as a construction worker with unstable income. The money earned is spent on treating children and helping grandparents with a little food but they still don't know where to spend.
"A few million VND is simple for others, but for my family it is too big, a worry that I don't know how to overcome the long term. There is not enough to eat, let alone pay for treatment, just every day or every day," Ms. Le choked up.
Ms. Le also confided that she has been old and weak with arthritis and blood pressure for 4 years. Previously, she used to do small business in the markets, but now she has to quit because of constant illness. Mr. Danh Dung, his maternal grandfather, has not improved, suffered from hyperthyroidism and severe pneumonia, and has been alone in the house for more than a year. In addition to Bang, the couple also took care of another young grandchild (Bang's younger brother who has not yet entered kindergarten). All living expenses now depend on the youngest son working for an aluminum facility in Ben Nhut. With an income of several million VND per month, the amount is too small compared to the cumulative burden of 7 people in a makeshift house.
Mr. Thai Van Thuan - Party Cell Secretary, Head of An Khuong Hamlet, said: Mrs. Le's family is very poor, the whole family of 7 people lives together but their low and unstable income is now even better. I hope the community will share and help Bang to be cured, so that he can go to school normally like his peers.
Khanh Bang's dream is not far away, simply being healthy to go to work to earn money to take care of grandparents and parents, the dream of a small child but making the hearts of adults bond. My journey ahead is still long and full of challenges, I hope that there will be golden hearts that give me strength.
