We squeezed through a muddy dirt road after last night's rain, about 500m from the main road, to get to the small, empty house in front and behind. The quiet, empty space further highlights the anxiety of a family struggling with a sudden accident.
The family of Ms. Ngo Thi Thang (born in 1963) living in Cong hamlet, Phu Phung commune, is already in a difficult situation. Ms. Thang said that her main source of income is only the jobs that hire someone to do that job.
The income has been accumulated over time, while taking care of his 92-year-old father, Mr. Ngo Van Bay, who when he remembers, forgets and is just around the house.
The natural disaster suddenly occurred around August 2025, when Ms. Thang had a serious traffic accident. At the hospital, doctors diagnosed her with multiple injuries: conjunctival hemorrhage, broken cheek and jaw bones, broken calf bones, end times and a lumpy right leg.
She underwent surgery on her cheekbone and calf October disease, but is still bedridden and has to ask for support from relatives for every activity.
Ms. Thang said tearfully: "I'm afraid I won't be able to work hard for long, I keep thinking about my 92-year-old father, how many years of raising me, now I have to look at him lying in one place... Thinking about the cost of medicine, my heart is tightly together."
Every day that passed was a challenge, not knowing how to survive. I just hope to be alert, have enough to eat and drink to recover soon to return to work. But looking around the house, there is no need to worry about medicine, food... I feel helpless," Ms. Thang added.
neighbors were all heartbroken by the situation where their father and children were in trouble. Ms. Tran Thi Tam, a neighbor near her house, said that Ms. Thang is gentle, hard-working, now lying in one place, with many expenses.
"Currently, Ms. Thang's family is having to borrow money from everywhere to cover the cost of treatment and medicine, estimated at at least 1 million VND per month, a figure that is too large compared to a few hundred meters of guava land and Ms. Thang's petty work"
Mr. Vo Minh Nghia - Vice Chairman of the Phu Phung Commune Red Cross Society said that Ms. Thang's situation makes everyone feel sorry. Not only does she have to suffer physical pain, but the burden of making a living and taking care of her elderly father makes the family always in a miserable state. Every day that passed was a challenge.
"We hope that the community and benefactors will join hands to help her family overcome this difficult period, so that she has the opportunity to treat well, the family has more hope and less worries about food, clothes, and medicine," Mr. Nghia added.
