One rainy afternoon, we went to a dilapidated house in Tan Tien Hamlet, Tan Long Hoi Commune. The skinless image of a woman carrying a kidney disease, accompanied by complications of blindness, makes anyone who looks at her heartbroken.
Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Thuy (born in 1990) said that she had been diagnosed with the disease for more than 3 years, and now she and her son born in 2007 live in a 30m2 house with a foundation, trees, and a dilapidated corrugated iron roof, relying on each other every day to overcome adversity.
Every month, the cost of medicine and dialysis of more than 5 million VND becomes a terrible burden, far exceeding the small income from the work of a child.
Ms. Thuy sadly said that she has to go to Vinh Long General Hospital for dialysis 3 times a week. Every time like that, her children have to run around borrow money from the people and neighbors and then go to work to pay off their debts. That vicious cycle has been repeating for more than 3 years.
The disease does not let go, but life constantly pushes them into deadlocks with no way out. That pain is clearly seen in every sigh and tired look of the young woman.
Pointing to the empty house, Ms. Le Thi Tam - a close neighbor - choked up as if saying that everyone around here felt sorry for Ms. Thuy's situation and tried to help as much as they could.
"The support is only a few hundred thousand dong, fish, meat or a little rice after harvest. Although small but imbued with love, it is a precious sharing in difficult days," Ms. Tam added.
Mr. Huynh Tuan Cuong - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Tan Long Hoi commune - said that Ms. Thuy's family is currently a particularly disadvantaged household and is receiving monthly social allowances - a source of encouragement that helps her have more money to pursue treatment.
With the motto "leaving no one behind", the government always prioritizes gifts from benefactors to better care for Ms. Thuy's family.
Seeing the blue woman trying to tell us about the uncertain future, we could not hold back our tears. Disease has exhausted me, but poverty has suppressed all hope. Ms. Thuy's family's life is in dire need of extended kindness to share the burden.
We hope for the cooperation of benefactors and soldiers near and far. A small help can become a source of life, a beacon of hope for Ms. Thuy to overcome her serious illness.
Hopefully, with the love and sharing of the community, Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Thuy's family will soon overcome the deadlock, so that she can have more time to be with her relatives.
