Light is a seemingly simple thing for many people but is the burning dream for the past 13 years of a boy from Nghe An. She has birth defects in both eyes, growing up in the shadow and undergoing surgeries that extended her hope.
At the age of 13, when many friends were busy reading and writing, the boy still had to stretch himself to look at the world through fragile bright spots. She shared, her voice trembling: "My left eye can only see light but cannot see clearly, and if my right eye wants to see, I have to pull my eyelids up. I really hope my child's eyes will be bright, so that in the future I can take care of my parents and become a Math teacher".

That simple but enduring dream became the motivation for Ms. Ho Thi Dien, the boy's mother - to carry her and her children throughout the journey to regain the light. For more than 12 years, from North to South, Ms. Dien has taken her children to 8-9 hospitals, holding on to the weak hope through each small intervention. However, up to now, her child's eyes have not improved significantly, becoming an unforgettable concern in the mother's heart.

"I took my child everywhere, and every time I went to the hospital, I had a little surgery. But now his eyes are still not as bright as expected. Currently, I want to have a cornea transplant for my child, but the cost is up to hundreds of millions of VND, the family really cannot afford to worry" - Ms. Dien choked up.
Ms. Dien said that even though she only looks at one side and almost cannot see the other, her son still studies very well. Math, Physics, Chemistry always have high scores, and have been at the top of the class for many consecutive years.
"The family's burden is even greater when not only one child is sick. Ms. Dien's daughter also has acute liver disease and has to be treated for a long time. The couple works for hire and are renting enough jobs to take care of their children. However, there were times when both sisters were hospitalized, and their families were forced to borrow from the bank to have enough money to pay for the hospital fees," said Ms. Dien.
Accompanying the boy in the treatment process, Dr. Nguyen Hong Nhung - Deputy Head of the Department of Mihoa and Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam National University, Hanoi - said that this is a patient with eyelid problem. Having undergone many previous surgeries makes the eyelids unable to close, impairs the child's protective function, causes inflammation and dryness of the cornea, and can lead to damage and damage to the cornea in the long run.
In addition, the eyelids that cannot be opened wide enough also hinder vision, causing many difficulties in daily life and study. Therefore, surgery to correct and shape the eyelids to help the eyelids still have the closed function to protect and protect the eyes, while also widening the eyelid gaps, helping patients see better. Closing your eyes also helps reduce the risk of cornea transplantation, because if your eyes are not closed, prolonged inflammation and dryness can easily damage the cornea.
"In the coming time for treatment and surgery, we hope to receive the cooperation and sharing of the community so that Ms. Ho Thi Dien's child has the opportunity to touch the light that she has been waiting for for for more than a decade" - Dr. Nhung expressed.
Amidst the difficult days, the boy's dream of becoming a Math teacher still silently exists. Not only does she hope to see her children clearly, she also longs for a full life like many of her peers - with light, knowledge and faith in tomorrow.
