In a simple level 4 house in Ba Son commune, Lang Son province, the life of Ms. Hoang Thi Be (born in 1993) these days is full of worries. At the age of over 30, the age at which she should be busy taking care of her family and the future of her children, she has to fight against dangerous diseases and the great loss of her life every day.
Previously, Ms. Be was healthy. Her family was not well-off but full of laughter. Her two children, one in 5th grade and one in 6th grade, are the pride and motivation for her and her husband to try every day. Although life is still full of hardships, that small family is still warm with sharing and hope for the future.
The incident happened in 2023. Initially, she only felt tired and had prolonged headaches. Thinking she was working too hard, she was subjective and did not go for an examination. However, the symptoms became more and more severe, and her body began to flaunt abnormally. When she went to the hospital for examination, she was shocked to receive a diagnosis of severe kidney failure and had to be hospitalized for emergency treatment and dialysis immediately.

Currently, Ms. Be is in the final stage of kidney failure, having to undergo periodic dialysis 3 times a week at Cao Loc district hospital. Blood filtration sessions have become a fragile thread to maintain the life of the young mother. “Since getting sick, I have not been able to do anything, so I have no income. I can only carry about 4-5kg and I am already tired. Many times my body is swollen, unable to eat or drink. Now I have to undergo dialysis 3 times a week to survive,” Ms. Be choked up.
She added that for more than 2 years, all of her treatment, travel, and food expenses have depended on her husband's meager worker salary. Due to difficult circumstances, her husband once left his hometown to go to the industrial park in Bac Ninh (formerly merged into Bac Giang) to work as a worker with the desire to have more income to support his wife and children. But 2 months ago, her husband unfortunately passed away in a traffic accident, leaving 3 mothers and children alone amidst a pile of difficulties.
Since my husband passed away, I have no support left. I don't know what to do in the days to come to maintain my life, to take care of my children's education properly," she said in tears.
Now, in the small house, only the 3 mothers and children rely on each other. Both paternal and maternal families are old, without stable income. Siblings and relatives are struggling to make a living, and cannot provide much support. A monthly allowance of about 1 million VND is the only source of money for Ms. Be to manage living expenses and raise 2 children to study.
The cost of dialysis is partly supported by insurance, but every time complications arise, the money for medicine outside the list becomes a burden. Without a job, without her husband by her side, her health is increasingly depleted, Ms. Be can only struggle because of her 2 young children.
“My biggest dream and also my last hope is to have a kidney transplant. That is the only way for me to recover and continue living for my children. But the cost is too high, far beyond my ability at this time.
I am not afraid of death, only afraid that if I fall, who will lead my children to continue, who will protect them from the storms of life. Thinking of my child's loneliness makes my heart ache. If I get a kidney transplant, it will be an opportunity for me to be resurrected. I will cherish every day of life and do meaningful things to not disappoint everyone's hearts," Ms. Be choked up.
