LD26106: An unknown man dying in the hospital, waiting for a miracle

HOÀNG LỘC |

Vinh Long - After 14 days of treatment at the hospital, the unidentified man is still in a coma, has no relatives, and costs are increasing day by day.

We went to Vinh Long General Hospital, where a man of unknown name was lying motionless, between the fragile boundary of life and death, without a relative by his side.

He was taken to the hospital at 7:04 PM on April 14, after being discovered lying motionless by people on Mau Than 1 street. Without personal papers, no one knows who he is or where he came from.

Almost half a month has passed since the information about finding relatives was posted, but there has been no response. That man is still lying quietly, lonely in the hospital room, fighting each weak breath.

BS.CKII Dang Huynh Thu - Head of the Department of Intensive Care and Poison Control, Vinh Long General Hospital - said that the patient was admitted to the hospital in very serious condition. Diagnosis: Infarction, high blood pressure. Severe pneumonia complicated by respiratory failure, acute liver and kidney damage, pulmonary fibrosis, bronchospasm, severe exhaustion.

Currently, the patient is in a coma, fully on a ventilator, unable to communicate. The prognosis is cautious because the disease is very severe, and there are no relatives to coordinate care," Dr. Huynh Thu added.

In the cold room of the intensive care unit, the sound of the ventilator regularly echoed as if holding onto fragile life. No visitors, no greetings, only a team of doctors and nurses taking turns taking care of her.

Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Bich - Head of the Social Work Department of Vinh Long General Hospital - said: "This is a very special case. The patient does not have papers, cannot be identified, and is not able to pay hospital fees.

The treatment cost to date has exceeded 40 million VND and continues to increase every day, while the condition has not shown clear signs of improvement. That burden is weighing on the hospital and charitable hearts.

We have tried to contact and post information through many channels but have not yet found relatives. We hope the community will join hands to support so that patients have more opportunities to live," Ms. Bich shared.

Every day that passes, his life becomes more fragile. No one knows what he went through before collapsing on the roadside, only know that now, he is fighting in loneliness.

The Social Work Department of Vinh Long General Hospital earnestly calls on philanthropists and benefactors near and far to join hands to support treatment costs, and at the same time help verify the identity and find relatives for patients.

Every sharing, no matter how small, can become a rope to hold onto life for a person who is gradually fading away. And who knows, among those kind hearts, someone will recognize him - so that he is no longer a "nameless person" in this life.
