Family exhausted after labor accident
In a rather simple house in Xuyen Moc commune (HCMC), Mr. Lam Ngoc Giang (born in 1988) is lying in one place on a bed, next to him there is only a fan, an old wheelchair to overcome the mid-summer heat. Seeing someone coming, Mr. Giang slowly sat up, leaning against the bed frame to receive guests with a voice still hesitant and interrupted.
Previously, Mr. Giang worked at a business near his house (now dissolved), and his wife also worked as a garment worker at a business in the area. The family was happy and warm with 2 healthy and obedient sons. Then an accident happened on July 19, 2023, sweeping away many things in the family.
That afternoon, when I was walking to the parking lot, I was suddenly hit from behind by a company truck. The collision threw me forward and then dragged me under the car," Mr. Giang recalled.
The accident caused Mr. Giang to fracture 5 vertebrae; fracture of 9 right ribs; fracture of right shoulder bone, fracture of right heel bone. At the same time, soft tissue damage next to the spine; hematoma of the lumbar-distal muscles on both sides; fluid, gas, pleural effusion in the right lung; pulmonary contusion on both sides; fluid effusion of the soft tissue of the right chest wall...
After that, Mr. Giang was paralyzed in both legs and had to lie in one place for a long time for treatment. The wife also had to quit her job to take care of her husband for a long time. This process put the family's economy in a state of exhaustion.
Hoping to be treated to stabilize health
Recounting the story with sad eyes, Mr. Giang said he was almost psychologically shocked, when from the pillar of the family, he now has to lie in one place for family members to take care of. The assets in the house are almost gone, even acupuncture and physical therapy treatment have been stopped for many months because there are no conditions to continue.
After treatment at hospitals and returning to the locality to continue treatment, I still had to lie in one place, even unable to sit up. Later, I was introduced to acupuncture and physical therapy at a facility in Tan Hai ward, so I could temporarily sit up. However, I had to stop treatment a few months ago because I no longer had the conditions, when the cost was more than 300,000 VND per day," Mr. Giang said.
Currently, Mr. Giang can only sit for a short time, and his 2 legs are showing signs of shrinking; his left leg is slightly contracted and extended, and his right leg cannot be controlled. If he sits for a long time, the lumbar area will be painful, and his two legs may also be swollen...
Mr. Giang only wishes to have treatment costs to stabilize his health, and then be able to find suitable jobs to help his family.
Mr. Giang said that because he can temporarily sit up, his wife is also looking for a new job, and just started working on the first day on July 21, 2026 to earn money to cover living expenses.
The simple man's eyes lit up when mentioning his 2 sons and recounted with pride: "My eldest child is in 8th grade this year, and the youngest child is in 4th grade, of which the eldest child has been a good student for 7 consecutive years. The children are also very caring and taking care of me, often helping me massage, stretch and straighten my legs, helping with small tasks... I hope to recover soon so that I can do suitable jobs to further support my family".
