Article 25 of the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024 (effective from January 1, 2025) stipulates traffic on highways as follows:
1. Drivers and operators of specialized motorbikes on highways must comply with the following road traffic rules:
a) Before entering the lane of the highway, you must signal to enter and give way to vehicles already on the road, observe the vehicles behind to ensure a safe distance before entering the lane on the right. If there is an acceleration lane, you must drive on that lane before entering the lane of the highway;
b) When preparing to exit the highway, you must observe the traffic signs and gradually move to the right lane. If there is a deceleration lane, you must move the vehicle on that lane before exiting the highway;
c) Do not drive in the emergency lane or on the roadside;
d) Other road traffic rules specified in this Chapter.
2. Vehicles may only be stopped or parked in designated areas; in case of technical problems or other force majeure that force the vehicle to stop or park, the vehicle may be stopped or parked in the emergency lane in the same direction as the vehicle is traveling and must be signaled with emergency lights; in case the vehicle cannot move into the emergency lane, it must be signaled with emergency lights and a sign or warning light must be placed at least 150 meters behind the vehicle, and promptly notify the Traffic Police agency responsible for ensuring traffic order and safety on the route or the highway management agency.
3. Specialized motorbikes with a design speed lower than the minimum speed prescribed for highways, four-wheeled motorized passenger vehicles, four-wheeled motorized cargo vehicles, motorbikes, mopeds, vehicles similar to motorbikes, mopeds, rudimentary vehicles, and pedestrians are not allowed on highways, except for people, road vehicles, and equipment serving the management and maintenance of highways.
Thus, according to the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety 2024, traffic on highways is regulated as above.
