The Lao Dong Newspaper Legal Consulting Office replied:
Clause 3, Article 3 of Circular 21/2025/TT-BGDDT of the Ministry of Education and Training (effective from September 23, 2025) stipulates the total number of extra teaching periods in a school year of each teacher as follows:
a) The total number of extra teaching periods in a school year of each teacher is calculated to pay overtime wages not exceeding 200 periods, except for the case specified in Point b of this Clause;
b) In case the total number of extra teaching periods in a school year of teachers exceeds 200 periods because the subject cannot be arranged enough teachers to teach, the head of the educational institution must notify in writing the competent authority.
Thus, from September 23, 2025, the total number of extra teaching periods in a school year for each teacher is regulated as above.
