On the evening of March 8, the 8th National Book Award Ceremony, 2025 took place in Hanoi.
Attending the Award Ceremony were Mr. Trinh Van Quyet - Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission; Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Ms. Lam Thi Phuong Thanh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Vu Hai Quan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Standing Deputy Minister of Science and Technology; Mr. Trinh Viet Hung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment; Mr. Le Quoc Minh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association; Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam - Member of the Party Central Committee, General Director of Vietnam Television; Mr. Le Van Loi, Member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences... together with representatives of Party and State leaders, authors, publishing units, book makers and book lovers.
Based on the voting results at the National Book Award Council, the Publishing, Printing and Distribution Department and the Vietnam Publishing Association have summarized and submitted to the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism for consideration and awarding the 8th National Book Award to 50 books and collections, including: 2 A prizes; 17 B prizes; 23 C prizes; 5 consolation prizes; 5 Favorite Book awards (with 2 books winning 2 prizes each).
At the award ceremony, 2 works won the A prize including: The book "History of Vietnam in Pictures" (Author Dong A and many authors; University of Pedagogy Publishing House; Associated unit Dong A Culture Joint Stock Company); and the book series "History of World Civilization" (11 parts, 45 books) by Will & Ariel Durant, translators Huynh Ngoc Chien, Phan Thanh Luu, Pham Viem Phuong, Bui Thanh Chau, Bui Xuan Linh, Do Lan; Social Sciences Publishing House and IRED Institute of Education.
5 books loved by readers belong to "Red Rain" (Writer Chu Lai; People's Army Publishing House, Vietnam Book Culture Knowledge Joint Stock Company); "Letter to you" (The love story of General Hoang Dan and his wife through his son's story), (author Hoang Nam Tien; Writers' Association Publishing House and Nha Nam Culture and Media Joint Stock Company); "Open Mindset" (author Nguyen Anh Dung; Dan Tri Publishing House, S Books Joint Stock Company); "The burden... strained..." (author Xuan Phuong, Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House) and "Smart with money to avoid worries" (author Le Thi Thuy Sen, painter Thang Fly, Kim Dong Publishing House).
The 8th National Book Award attracted the participation of 46/52 publishers nationwide with 397 book titles and book sets (512 books). The number of participating works continued to increase compared to the previous period, showing the interest and positive response of publishing units (25 more book titles and book sets, 57 books compared to the 7th National Book Award).
This year's season has the coordination of many agencies and units. The Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee is the guiding agency. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plays the role of the presiding agency. The Vietnam Publishing Association and the Publishing, Printing and Distribution Department directly deploy the work of receiving and appraising entries.
The National Book Award is held annually since 2018. In the 7th season, the A prize belongs to the collection "Gia Dinh - Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City, a long history miles" (author Nguyen Dinh Tu), "Handbook on diagnosis and treatment of internal medicine diseases" (Associate Professor, Doctor, Doctor Dao Xuan Co editor-in-chief) and five collections "General Collection of Military Writers - Yearbook - Works" of the Military Literature and Arts Magazine.
