On January 20, Mr. Nguyen Duc Loc - Director of Hue City Museum of History said that the unit has re-received the old Thuan Hoa District People's Committee headquarters in Vy Da ward (a 7-story building at No. 24 To Huu) as a new headquarters and is developing an overall plan to relocate artifacts. Transportation items will be calculated according to a strict roadmap, especially large-sized artifacts such as aircraft and tanks must have the technical support of the army force.
The museum currently preserves more than 33,000 artifacts, including two national treasures belonging to Champa culture. When transferred to a new facility with an area of more than 20,000 square meters, the unit will have conditions to expand the display space, organize heritage education topics and promote the value of valuable collections.
Previously, the museum was located at the Quoc Tu Giam relic in Hue capital. In 2024, the unit temporarily moved to 268 Dien Bien Phu, formerly the old barracks of Battalion 19 of the Border Guard of Thua Thien Hue province (old). However, this location is cramped, not meeting the requirements of preserving and introducing a large number of artifacts.

To prepare for the headquarters transfer, the museum is reviewing the entire plan built before, adding clauses to increase the safety level for documents and artifacts. The group of artifacts with old age and weak structures will be packaged according to a separate process, especially focusing on the two national treasures of Champa culture.
Along with the transportation plan, the unit plans to invest in a system of raised platforms, roofs and specialized warehouses to ensure storage conditions when artifacts return to a new place. Fire prevention, humidity control and security are also included in the priority plan.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Loc said that in parallel with the relocation, the museum is implementing research on a master plan for overall display at the new facility. The master plan must be suitable for the scale of a cultural institution representing the Hue heritage city, connecting the historical stories of the ancient capital.
According to the museum leader, the operating method will strongly focus on the community, creating more experiential spaces for people and tourists. The goal is to turn this place into a vibrant cultural destination, contributing to promoting the historical value of Hue in the new development phase.
