Actor who studied at the University of Theatre and Cinema, People's Artist Xuan Bac always remembers the first role he had in a film. That is the role of Thien in the film 12A and 4H by director Bui Thac Chuyen released in 1995, 30 years ago.
Recently, at the press conference to launch the movie "geography: Sun in the dark" - the latest work of director Bui Thac Chuyen, People's Artist Xuan Bac attended as Director of the Department of Performing Arts.
People's Artist Xuan Bac was appointed Director of the Department of Performing Arts from the end of 2024.
When watching geography: Sun in the dark, Director Xuan Bac expressed his emotion and choked up. He tightly hugged director Bui Thac Chuyen. This is also the reunion of the crew of 12A and 4H after 30 years.
In fact, before taking on the position of Director, People's Artist Xuan Bac was attached to the stage, rarely acting in films (especially in the film industry), but he always had special feelings for director Bui Thac Chuyen.
People's Artist Xuan Bac once affirmed that when participating in "12A and 4H", he learned a lot from director Bui Thac Chuyen.



12A and 4H by director Bui Thac Chuyen released to audiences in 1995 immediately caused a fever on the small screen. The film revolves around life, the concerns and ambitions of the four best friends whose names start with the letters H: Hang, Hoa, Han, Ha and their 12th grade friends.
After nearly 30 years, the film is still an unforgettable mark for People's Artist Xuan Bac. When participating in this film, People's Artist Xuan Bac was a first-year student at Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema.
In a conversation with Lao Dong reporter, People's Artist Xuan Bac shared: "In 1995, I had just entered college in my first year. I was chosen by director Bui Thac Chuyen to play a role in 12A and 4H. Initially, I was targeted for the role of Long Phuoc - a person who had fought, went to prison and then returned to continue studying in grade 12. I started practicing martial arts, bar performance, and jogging to be physically fit enough to play Long Phuoc. But when I arrived at the film crew, the director said that my figure was fine, but my face was too young, not suitable for the role. Finally, I was given the role of Thien".
The story of People's Artist Xuan Bac in "12A and 4H" was born in the South, followed his father to the North and joined class 12A. He had a secret relationship with a character in the group "4H". Thien has a gentle, bright face. Although they were invited to play with them by Ngon, Thien did not give up. He also bravely stood up to accuse Ngon of being the anonymous writer who threatened his teacher...
People's Artist Xuan Bac said that when he first arrived at the film crew, he was shy and shy, not daring to ask much. Director Bui Thac Chuyen saw that and said, "Just ask me what you need". So, from the next day onwards, Xuan Bac kept asking, from acting to cameras, lighting, scenes... He asked so much that he made director Bui Thac Chuyen and the film crew angry.


People's Artist Xuan Bac said, "Those are special memories that I will remember forever. The first days of making films were full of confusion and were taught a lot by director Bui Thac Chuyen as well as the brothers and sisters in the 12A and 4H film crew".
As Director of the Department of Performing Arts, People's Artist Xuan Bac expressed his special interest in cinema, the performing arts, especially works that honor national culture and history. People's Artist Xuan Bac once appeared in the backstage, encouraged the Call Me by Fire artists, and praised the MV Bac Bling on his personal page...
And most recently, People's Artist Xuan Bac hugged director Bui Thac Chuyen tightly, giving the film "Tunnel: Sun in the dark".
