The poverty of the times
"Seven Nights of a Thousand Swallows" is set in the countryside of Lo Nam since 1927, revolving around the troubled life of Ninh Tu Tu (Duong Mich). She is the daughter of a landowner, preparing to marry the young master of the Phi family, but was suddenly kidnapped by a loan sharks on the day of the auction.
Tu Tu's father prefers to die to keep the land Than pay for his daughter's ransom. Her younger sister, Ninh To To, was cheated by her fiance to make things go smoothly.
From the young lady of the yellow leaf, Tu Tu had to marry the poor farmer Phong Dai Cuoc (Au Hao), starting a journey to "come back to the countryside" to be independent after the incident.
For films with the theme of a historical period, good plot and acting are still not enough. The important thing is to capture the atmosphere of that time. Binh Van Tu has done this.
The setting, props, and costumes of the characters are meticulously cared for. Ninh Tu Tu's change is a typical example.

Ninh Tu Tu was the daughter of the richest family in the village, and since childhood she never had to worry about food and money. On the wedding day, she wore a new wedding dress with sparkling makeup, a turban that filled the whole room, extremely luxurious.
But after the incident, becoming a rural wife, Tu Tu was no longer allowed to wear brocade, her outfit was rough, furry fabric, and her face was pale because she had given up her makeup.
The family situation of Phong Dai Cuoc is poverty that can be seen with the naked eye. Tu Tu's parents-in-law wore old, silver-colored shirts. There are very few household items, the tables and chairs have been peeling for a long time, the walls are patchy...
The poor farmers were bright-eyed when they saw a small piece of meat. The father-in-law regrets being cheap because the bride uses salt to brush her teeth, salt is something they have to exchange for grain to get. They could even only serve the matchmaker with a bowl of noodles.
The detailed presentation of the lives of the poor makes the feeling of the times even more clear.
ideological complaints
material poverty can be built through the context, but the scariest thing about this period is the ideological poverty, depicted through each character.
Tu Tu was not raped by robbers, but in the eyes of the villagers, once they had spent the night on the mountain, they could not save themselves anymore.
The most typical example of the ancient Chinese ideology is Phi Ta thi (Tan Hai Lo) - the daughter-in-law of the Phi family.

Because her husband passed away early, she alone took care of the family and took care of the education of her brother-in-law Phi Van Dien (who was Tu Tu's fiance). The ability of Phi Ta Ta is not inferior to any man, but she only hopes that when her brother-in-law succeeds, she can entrust the Phi family.
The language of filming has depicted feudal ideology that restrains women. Phi Ta thi knelt under the familys title, praying for the ancestors blessings of the Phi family. But she did not know that the person she should truly trust was herself.
After Ninh To To married his sister on her behalf, he was treated gently and lovingly by his sister-in-law. But in reality, Phi Ta Tinh only considers To To as a tool for tracking road collisions, even taking medicine for her husband to achieve her goal.
From this perspective, poverty in life is nothing, poverty in thinking is the worst thing.
A woman can spread out her wings and fly high, but is deeply influenced by feudal ideology and is stuck in family discipline, never able to escape.
