On August 16, according to information from Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), to meet the progress requirements of the Prime Minister, ACV has urgently deployed and completed the selection of contractors in special cases for packages during the construction phase to deploy the second runway and held a groundbreaking ceremony on May 30, 2025.
The second runway, 4 km long and 75 m wide, is currently under simultaneous construction.
The construction contractor is the joint venture ACC - Truong Son - Vinaconex - Vinadic - ACJC647-Khanh Thien-VTG.
The contract value is VND 2,570.36 billion (of which VND 2,364.73 billion is the construction value, excluding replenishment fees).
ACV has directed the contractor consortium to make the most of the weather to carry out the construction.
Currently, the project is simultaneously implementing construction phases, road foundations, and drainage systems. The volume of materials and supplies gathered at the construction site is worth about 100 billion VND.
To proactively source supply and avoid interruption of progress, more than 100,000 m3 of materials have been gathered at the construction site since the first stage.
It is expected that the second runway will be completed in sync with other items on December 19, in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister.

On August 2, the Prime Minister inspected and worked on the investment project to build Long Thanh International Airport Phase 1.
The Prime Minister requested ACV to arrange the site and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned Saigon Tourism Corporation (Saigontourist) to deploy food and beverage services to meet the needs of lunch, overnight meals/rest for staff, workers and laborers at the construction site in a responsible and non-profit manner, contributing to the completion and inauguration of the project on December 19.
The Prime Minister assigned the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to coordinate with the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee to immediately study the underground metro line connecting Tan Son Nhat airport and Long Thanh airport. Report to the Prime Minister for approval in August 2025.
The Ministry of Construction and ACV study and propose the implementation of a third runway. Report to the Prime Minister in August 2025.
All work of the 4 component projects must be completed and put into operation at the inauguration of the project on December 19.
