The Seodaemun Police Department (Seoul) searched Psy's management office and vehicle on December 4 as part of an investigation into possible violations of the Health Service Law.
During the search, the investigation agency seized Psy's mobile phone to serve forensic analysis, in order to verify the accusation that he had received prescriptions remotely for a long time. The police are also reviewing the collected documents to decide to summon the male singer for questioning.
Psy is suspected of receiving a prescription for sleep apnea from a university hospital in Seoul from 2022 to recently without a direct examination - which is considered against the regulations if not qualified for remote consultation. The investigation also said that the medicine was taken by his manager, making the incident more serious because it could violate regulations on prescription and receipt of medical drugs.
The hospital declined to comment, saying it could not give its opinion while the investigation was still ongoing. The doctor who treated the case was named for the incident and is said to have denied the violation, affirming that the remote consultation was conducted legally.
In a response to KBS, Psy's management company admitted that the singer has used remote medical consultation since the COVID-19 period and continues to apply this method due to his busy work schedule. The company admitted that there were negligences in receiving the drug but confirmed that Psy did not use anyone elses name, did not abuse the drug, and did not take drugs outside the prescription limit.
The police said they will continue to expand the investigation to verify whether there were any violations of the law, including receiving drugs that were not in accordance with regulations or prescribing violations. The Korean public is closely following the incident as Psy is one of the most influential artists in the entertainment industry.
