On October 6, the Vietnam Writers' Association organized a "Seminar to summarize Vietnamese Literature after 1975 - Achievements, problems and prospects" in Hanoi.

Attending the workshop were Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen The Ky - Former member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; poet Nguyen Quang Thieu - Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association; Poet Huu Thinh - Former Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association; poet Tran Dang Khoa - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association; writer Nguyen Binh Phuong - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association - along with many writers, poets, and theoretical critics.

At the workshop, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu - Chairman of the Vietnam Writers' Association - said that the past 50 years have been a particularly important journey for the country's literature, with many achievements but also many challenges and problems that need to be solved.

He commented that after 1975, the face of Vietnamese literature has changed profoundly when entering the period of renovation.

New trends, schools and aesthetics have appeared, bringing rich vitality to prose, poetry, criticism and translation.

Entering the technology era, poet Nguyen Quang Thieu paid special attention to the impact of artificial intelligence (AI). He believes that if writers lack creativity and dare to innovate, they will easily be "replaced" by AI.

There was a period, a moment, when a writer became AI, a robot in his composition because he did not dare to leave the trail or a safe area. But writers with creativity, vibration, intelligence - the most important weapon to overcome the intervention of AI, robots. When we let artificial intelligence replace writers, that is the end of literature, Mr. Nguyen Quang Thieu emphasized.

Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu commented that Vietnamese literature is still disjointed and has not yet established a position in the world. According to him, the most difficult obstacle is the writers themselves if they do not escape the dead end.

Speaking at the workshop, writer Nguyen Binh Phuong - Vice President of the Vietnam Writers' Association - commented that 50 years is not a long journey in the history of human development but is a very significant period of time for a literature.

He said that through the two previous summary seminars held in Ho Chi Minh City (September 16) and Da Nang (September 26), the Writers' Association has received many contributions.

Evaluations of Vietnamese literature over the past half century have been divided into two issues, two relatively different perspectives.

In terms of humanity, there are opinions that Vietnamese literature over the past 50 years has done a good job of civil servants and missionaries, depicting the situation of the nation, depicting the identity of Vietnamese people in the fluctuating flow of development history. And literature has also bravely risen to the top of the most urgent problems of society, patching up the post-war wounds in the hearts of our nation. And it also creates its own cultural features.

But on the other side of the problem, there are also very strong opinions that, over the past 50 years, our literature has not done a good job in creating the spiritual life of society in a humane and international direction. It also avoids the truths and hidden corners that human life is facing. It has not yet rang out warning bells about the cracks in society and people in terms of ethics and ideals, emphasized writer Nguyen Binh Phuong.

In terms of artistic taste, the two seminars in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang assessed that 50-year literature development is diverse, rich, bold, creating a unique feature compared to before 1975.

Presenting a speech at the workshop was Professor, researcher, literary critic Phong Le about "50 years of Vietnamese literature (1975 - 2025) waiting for a generation transition". According to him, the main striker in today's writing team must be the young writing generation, born before and after 1990.

Many other presentations were also shared such as The Literary Innovation of 1975-2025 by poet Tran Anh Thai, The mission of 50 years of national reconciliation and harmony after the war of the authors by writer Nguyen Viet Chien, On generations of Vietnamese literary authors abroad since 1975 by Nguyen Hoai Nam...
