The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dak Lak province has just proposed that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism submit a Government program to include the heritage of "Dak Lak Coffee cultivation and Processing method" in the list of nominations for UNESCO to recognize as a Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
This proposal is of special significance, not only to honor indigenous knowledge and cultural values associated with coffee trees - a symbol of Dak Lak and the Central Highlands, but also to contribute to raising the level of Vietnamese coffee brands in the international arena.
If recognized by UNESCO, this will be a big step forward in the work of preserving and promoting the image of the people and culture of the Central Highlands, while promoting the development of tourism, the local economy and society on the basis of traditional culture.
Previously, in March 2025, the heritage of "Dak Lak Coffee cultivation and Processing Knowledge" was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
The recognition affirms the value of indigenous knowledge associated with coffee trees - the typical product that makes up the brand of the land of a thousand, while honoring the efforts of farmers and processors who have contributed to bringing Vietnamese coffee to the world.
The heritage of "Dak Lak Coffee Growing and Processing Knowledge", also known as Dak Lak Coffee Growing appropriation, belongs to the form of folk knowledge and traditional handicrafts, preserved and passed down through many generations by the End community, M' Nong and settlements.
Heritage space includes growing, processing and rituals associated with coffee trees, demonstrating the strong connection between people, nature, culture and livelihoods.
