This is the first time a Vietnamese singer has not only participated but has also been immediately crowned at a large-scale international playground, marking an important turning point for Vietnamese music.
The male singer said: Through the stage in Russia, from music to Vietnamese elements, Phuc hopes to convey a message about the power of faith, the spirit of solidarity and the desire to rise up. The story of Thanh Giong - Phu Dong Thien Vuong and the image of bamboo is not only a legend, but also a common symbol of the fighting will and ability to overcome challenges of the Vietnamese people. Phuc hopes that international audiences will feel the beauty of Vietnamese culture and find empathy and inspiration for their own journey.
If Duc Phuc is a testament to the power of his elaborate voice and art, Phuong My Chi leaves her mark with the delicate harmony between tradition and modernity.
At the Sing!Asia 2025 contest, she excellently entered the Top 3 finalists with a score of 406.8, only losing to the runner-up by 0.8 points. The way Phuong My Chi integrates traditional musical instruments, folk choreography and multilingual singing has shown the creativity of young Vietnamese artists.
Meanwhile, Trong Hieu - champion of Vietnam Idol 2015 - is also gradually making his mark on the international stage. In 2024, he participated in the Euro-Asia Music Fest in Germany and entered the Top 10 finalists. With a vibrant performance style, the ability to combine European and American pop music with Asian materials, Trong Hieu has impressed international friends, affirming the image of a dynamic and integrated Vietnamese artist.
Opportunities for Vietnamese artists
The above achievements are not only individual but also demonstrate the overall progress of Vietnamese music.
Duc Phuc brought home the first international cup, Phuong My Chi preserved traditional identity, while Trong Hieu expanded the image of Vietnamese artists in the multicultural flow. These faces show that Vietnamese artists are completely capable of competing fairly in the most severe arenas.
From those marks, the public hopes that Vietnamese music will have more representatives reaching out to the world in the future. The harmonious combination of national identity and modernity is the key to helping Vietnamese artists conquer global audiences. In the context of K-pop or J-pop creating a strong wave, Vietnam is also facing a great opportunity to affirm its position. There needs to be more long-term strategies, from artist training, international production support, to promoting Vietnamese culture through art.
The journey to the world of Vietnamese music has just begun, but with the resounding successes of Duc Phuc and the efforts of Phuong My Chi and Trong Hieu, the audience has every right to believe that one day in the near future, Vietnam will have "global stars", contributing to affirming the identity and position of the folk music industry on the world map.
