According to Korean media, on March 4, Disney+ responded to iMBC Entertainment that there are currently "no changes compared to the previous stance" regarding the plan to release the original series "Knock Off". This announcement was made amid growing rumors that the film could be released in the first half of 2026.
Knock Off" is a black comedy series with criminal elements, set in the Asian financial crisis of 1997 in Korea. The content revolves around a man whose life is completely turned upside down after an economic upheaval, before gradually rising to become a tycoon in the global counterfeit market. The project gathers a cast of famous actors, in which Kim Soo Hyun plays the main role alongside actress Jo Bo Ah.
According to many sources in the industry, the movie "Knock Off" has a production budget of about 60 billion won (equivalent to more than 40 million USD), belonging to the group of large-scale projects of Disney+ in the Korean market. Initially, the movie was planned to be released in the second quarter of last year, but was then temporarily suspended from production and postponed for an indefinite time.
The reason for the delay is said to stem from personal disputes related to Kim Soo Hyun. Although the details of the scandals were not specifically announced by the platform, the incident has significantly affected the release progress of the project.
Recently, rumors about "Knock Off" possibly being released in 2026 suddenly spread after an article mentioned the possibility of the film being released again. Lawyer Go Sang Rok - Kim Soo Hyun's legal representative - shared this article on his personal social network and said "it is very likely that it is true".
However, with the latest announcement from Disney+, the release plan of "Knock Off" has not been officially changed. This means the future of the project is still uncertain, while audiences continue to wait for clearer information from the producer in the near future.
