Accordingly, the province will consider building a museum to display plant and animal models; organize tours and tourist routes suitable for entertainment needs associated with nature conservation; at the same time, connect scientists, attract investors to make Kon Ka Kinh an attractive destination for eco-tourism in the Central Highlands.
Kon Ka Kinh National Park is located in the Northeast of Gia Lai province, spread across the Dak Doa, Mang Yang and Kbang (old) areas, with an area of nearly 42,000 hectares (of which more than 39,300 hectares are natural forests). This is one of two core areas of the Kon Ha Nung Plateau Biosphere Reserve, recognized by UNESCO as a World Biosphere Reserve.
This place has a rich ecosystem with more than 1,750 plant species and nearly 880 animal species, including 16 endemic and rare species such as the Centralorder finches, the gray-legged langurs, the Truong Son frog, the Kon Ka Kinh shark, the landlocked chickens... In the first 7 months of 2025, the Park received 31 wild animals, released 27 individuals back to the wild, rescued 4 individuals and raised 20 individuals: star-throated, monkey, pig-tailed monkey.
Although it has only piloted tourism exploitation with a modest number of visitors (342), the National Park Management Board is implementing the selection of contractors to implement the "Project to develop eco-tourism, resorts, and entertainment until 2030, with a vision to 2045".
In particular, Mr. Ngo Van Thang - Director of Kon Ka Kinh National Park - said that the Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment has signed Decision No. 180/QD-HMTg, recognizing 6 banyan trees in the Park as Vietnam Heritage Trees.
These six ancient banyan trees are distributed in sub-areas 433A and 433B, aged from 218 to 300 years, with an average height of 32-42 m. These are typical individuals associated with the formation and development of the Kon Ka Kinh ecosystem, with ecological value, landscape and important significance in the conservation of biodiversity in the Central Highlands.
According to the recognition decision, heritage trees will enjoy care consultation and life extension; at the same time, they will be widely introduced and promoted on official communication channels of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment. The management, care and promotion of the value of perennial trees will be coordinated by the Park Management Board, the Ayun commune government and the local community.
Currently, Kon Ka Kinh is also one of 27 national parks in Southeast Asia recognized as an ASEAN Heritage Park. With advantages in landscape, ecology and synchronous investment orientation, this place is expected to become a highlight of eco-tourism - resorts associated with nature conservation in Gia Lai and the Central Highlands region.
