This event is considered the most special in the Mekong Delta region because this is the only locality merged from 2 provinces recognized by the Prime Minister to complete the task of building new rural areas in 2024.
Previously, on June 29, authorized by the Prime Minister, Mr. Le Minh Hoan - Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly - awarded the Certificate of Recognition of Dong Thap province for completing the task of building new rural areas in 2024. According to the General, Dong Thap - Tien Giang is considered a rice granary, fruit granary, and aquaculture granary of the country and a destination for many domestic and foreign investors.
The merger of provinces is a condition for the two localities to resonate with each other to create outstanding values, rise up, develop strongly, quickly, comprehensively, sustainably in the new historical period; create a favorable environment for planning and investment, developing river tourism, garden tourism... In particular, right before the merger, the two provinces of Tien Giang and Dong Thap have completed the task of the new rural province. This is an important premise for Dong Thap province to maintain new rural results today, aiming to build an advanced new rural province and many other growth goals, the General emphasized.
The General suggested that with that potential and advantages, Dong Thap needs to aim for ecological, modern, high-quality agricultural development; becoming a leader in building "eco-agriculture, modern countryside, civilized farmers". In particular, focusing on improving the quality of agricultural products, meeting regional and world standards through construction solutions, such as: dykes, ditches, water retention ditches in the dry season and drainage in the rainy season, creating a mechanism to prevent salinity, and applying science and technology to promote safe and organic production, creating many new values, increasing agricultural product value, expanding markets, export turnover, effectively responding to climate change in the area.

The General specifically suggested that Dong Thap should focus public investment on key projects, creating new momentum for security, defense and national defense and promoting advantages for socio-economic development. This is a solid foundation to improve people's lives, enhance competitiveness, and contribute to creating a new look for a Delta region, according to the orientation of "Green - Smart - Creative - Preserving cultural identity". Thereby, aiming for a rich and prosperous locality, in the leading group of economic and cultural development, gradually narrowing the income gap, improving the quality of life of the people.
