Through 7 editions of organization, the award has become a prestigious cultural event, contributing to discovering and honoring works with outstanding ideological, academic, scientific and aesthetic values; and at the same time orienting readers, spreading reading culture and promoting the healthy development of publishing activities.
Many new points
According to information from the Organizing Committee, this year's National Book Award has many new points. The award structure is streamlined and more reasonable when it is adjusted from 5 categories to 4 categories, on the basis of merging categories with similarities in academic content and ideological orientation (merging the political, economic and social science and human science books into the political, economic, social science and human science books). This rearrangement not only ensures suitability with current publishing practices but also creates conditions to evaluate works in a more comprehensive, interdisciplinary and substantive way.
In addition, the judging criteria are also improved in the direction of emphasizing quality and spread. The score structure is reasonably adjusted to promote the ideological, academic value and practical contribution of the work; emphasizing the universality of new knowledge, especially in the fields of education, science, technology and innovation; the improvement of criteria not only improves the quality of selection but also creates conditions for many sets of books with real value and positive influence in academic and social life to be considered and honored deservedly.
Along with nominations from publishers, the Award continues to expand the subjects of nominations, allowing readers and press agencies to participate in introducing works. The "Books loved by readers" category is maintained and completes the selection process, combining professional judging and public voting.
Especially this year, the Organizing Committee has applied media data analysis in the selection process. For works proposed for high prizes, the organizing committee coordinates with technology units to synthesize and analyze public opinion data from newspapers and media platforms.
The number of entries continues to increase
The Organizing Committee informed that the 8th National Book Award attracted the participation of 46/52 publishers nationwide with 397 book titles and book sets (512 books). The number of participating works continued to increase compared to the previous period, showing the interest and positive response of publishing units (25 book titles and book sets, 57 books more than the 7th National Book Award).
The "Books loved by readers" category recorded more than 150 books nominated by readers. Through two preliminary rounds and voting, typical works were selected to submit to the Final Jury for consideration.
Based on the voting results at the National Book Award Council, the Publishing, Printing and Distribution Department and the Vietnam Publishing Association have summarized and submitted to the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism for consideration and awarding the VIII National Book Award to 50 books and sets of books, including: 2 A prizes; 17 B prizes; 23 C prizes; 5 consolation prizes; 5 Favorite Book prizes (with 2 books winning 2 prizes each).
