Hanoi - an attractive destination for international tourists

Ý Yên |

Hanoi is constantly striving to build a tourism image of "Safe - Friendly - Quality - Attractive", affirming its position as a world-leading destination.

Hanoi - come to love

For international visitors, Hanoi always seems to be an indispensable stop on their Vietnam travel itinerary. The capital of Vietnam attracts international visitors with its diverse culture, heritage, rich historical traditions, beautiful natural landscapes, etc.

Kev Shepherd, from England, is impressed by the flags and atmosphere in Hanoi these days. Tourists often only consider Hanoi as a transit point before going to other places such as Ha Long, Sa Pa, Ha Giang or Ninh Binh... However, Kev believes that if you just stay a little longer, anyone will love this city.

“I always recommend my friends to visit Hanoi first when traveling to Vietnam. Hanoi's Old Quarter is like a maze, with alleys selling everything you need. If you like night markets, you will definitely like the night market in the middle of Hanoi's Old Quarter,” the male tourist said, adding that he also visited Hoa Lo Prison, experienced a food tour...

Shepherd is one of millions of international visitors to Hanoi and falls in love with the city. International tourists who love to travel post countless videos introducing and promoting the beautiful scenery, tourist attractions, culture, and cuisine of Hanoi on social networking platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, etc., attracting millions of interactions. These digital contents contribute to spreading Hanoi's reputation on the world tourism map. Hanoi's attraction is also proven through impressive numbers of tourists. In September 2024 alone, the total number of tourists to Hanoi reached 2.16 million, an increase of 6.1% over the same period in 2023. In the first 9 months of 2024, the total number of tourists to Hanoi is estimated at 21.12 million, an increase of 11.7% over the same period in 2023. International visitors are estimated at 4.45 million, an increase of 40.8% over the same period in 2023 (including 3.14 million international tourists with accommodation).

Ms. Dang Huong Giang - Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism - assessed: "With the domestic and international economic context still facing many difficulties and challenges, many economic sectors and fields have low recovery and growth rates, the capital's tourism industry continues to recover and develop, achieving many positive results".

Position of cultural - tourist center

Not only receiving positive signals about tourism development, Hanoi also received 3 awards in the categories of "Asia's Leading City Destination", "Asia's Leading Short-Term City Destination" and "Vietnam's Leading Cultural Destination".

This is the third consecutive time that Hanoi has been honored in the category of “Asia’s Leading City Destination” since 2022. At the same time, Hanoi has won for the second time in the category of “Asia’s Leading Short-Term City Destination” (in 2023, 2024).

This demonstrates Hanoi’s position as a leading tourist destination in Asia and the capital’s strong rise on the regional map. The award affirms Hanoi’s appeal to domestic and foreign tourists, especially those who want a short but experiential vacation.

Mr. Graham Cooke - Chairman of the World Travel Awards highly appreciated the advantages and potential of Hanoi tourism. According to him, Hanoi has many advantages in culture, heritage, and people. That is the reason why the capital of Vietnam won 3 categories at the World Travel Awards for Asia and Oceania 2024.

Hanoi's cultural and tourism activities are even more exciting this time with a series of events celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).

According to the Management Board of Hoan Kiem Lake and Hanoi Old Quarter, on this occasion, tourists coming to Hanoi can participate in and follow many activities and programs such as exhibitions, art performances, and real-life tours... in Hanoi Old Quarter. Typical are the exhibition "Memories of Hanoi - 70 years", the real-life tour "Stories of Hang Street", the photo exhibition "Hanoi - The Day of Takeover in 1954" and the screening of the documentary "Memories of Hanoi"...

In addition, for the first time, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum introduced paintings by famous artists Bui Xuan Phai, Tran Dinh Tho, Nguyen Van Ty… about Hanoi at the exhibition “Hanoi - Vitality and Faith”. The exhibition applied modern digital projection technology combined with traditional display.

In 2024, Hanoi strives to welcome over 27 million visitors, an increase of 9.2% compared to 2023. Of which, the tourism industry aims to welcome over 5.5 million international visitors (including 3.8 million international visitors staying overnight), an increase of 16.4% compared to 2023, and 21.5 million domestic visitors, an increase of 7.5% compared to 2023. Total revenue from tourists will reach over VND 109.41 trillion, an increase of 28.2% compared to 2023. The average room occupancy rate of accommodation establishments and hotels will reach 62% or more.
