Hundreds of soldiers and equipment have been dispatched to the scene to carry out search and rescue operations. The landslide on National Highway 2 has killed two victims and injured many others.
Earlier, on the morning of September 29, heavy rain caused tens of thousands of cubic meters of rock and soil to slide down National Highway 2. The landslide buried many people, vehicles, and several houses along the road.
About 500m from the landslide site, hundreds of households in Thuong My village (Viet Vinh commune) were forced to evacuate overnight. Currently, people have been taken to cultural houses and schools to ensure safety.
At the hill area at Km54 (through Toi slope, Tan Thanh village, Viet Vinh commune), there are continued signs of landslides. Initially, cracks appeared and then a 1.5m slide occurred. Faced with severe damage caused by flash floods and landslides, the Ministry of National Defence has coordinated with the Ministry of Transport and localities to deploy flycams to scan vulnerable areas at risk of landslides to promptly warn and take preventive measures, evacuate residents, and ensure safety for rescue forces.
Chairman of Ha Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Son requested Bac Quang district to implement the "4 on-site" principle in natural disaster prevention. He requested functional forces to make efforts to deploy search and rescue measures, and have a plan to handle unexpected incidents. Localities must ensure safety, evacuate people to safe places, and provide necessities for displaced households to temporarily stabilize their lives.
