Tourism activities in many places paralyzed due to the consequences of storms and floods

Ý Yên |

A few days after Typhoon Yagi made landfall in Vietnam, the consequences of the storm and its circulation were severe in many localities across the North. Tourism activities in many places are still paralyzed.

Cancel tour, stop tourism activities

Due to prolonged heavy rains from the impact of storm No. 3, floods and landslides occurred in many northern localities, especially Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Lang Son and Lai Chau provinces. Traffic was severely affected. Therefore, many localities suspended tourism activities or advised tourists to limit their visits to high-risk areas.

The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Giang province recommends not to travel to areas at risk of landslides, flash floods, and inundation on tourist routes such as Meo Vac down to Nho Que River; Thuan Hoa - Thai An road; Dong Van - Meo Vac road; some roads and residential areas in Ha Giang City and Hoang Su Phi, Xin Man, Quang Binh districts... In particular, tourists are warned not to bathe in waterfalls, streams, or participate in hydroelectric reservoir cruise activities that cause unsafety.

Ms. Hoang Thi Vuong - Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Sa Pa town - requested the units: Hoang Lien National Park, Tourism and Monuments Development Management Board, Ham Rong Tourist Area Management Board and tourist destinations in the area to proactively check and deploy response plans to the circulation of storm No. 3 to ensure the safety of property and people. Pay special attention to places with waterfalls, streams and complex terrain.

Accordingly, visitors will be temporarily suspended at relic sites and scenic spots managed by the Department of Culture and Information of Sa Pa town from September 8 until further notice.

Communes and wards in Sa Pa town are requested to increase propaganda and inspection of tourist areas and spots under their management. Tourist areas and spots are required to stop receiving visitors to ensure safety of property and human life.

A representative of Sun World Fansipan said that to ensure storm and flood prevention, the tourist area will be temporarily closed from September 9 until further notice.

Travel businesses also recorded many tours and hotel booking requests being canceled or postponed until at least mid-September to ensure the safety of tourists planning to travel to the North after the storm.

Hai Phong and Quang Ninh need time to overcome

Currently, the authorities of Quang Ninh province and Hai Phong city have not announced specific statistics on the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi to yachts and tourist boats in Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay. However, the actual damage could be up to several billion VND.

Present in Ha Long (Quang Ninh) on September 9 to record the damage, CEO Pham Ha of Lux Group - a unit specializing in luxury yacht business, shared with Lao Dong: "We are planning to repair and renovate, prioritizing urgent items."

This company's fleet has two speedboats that sank, damaging the interior and exterior of two luxury ships that specialize in picking up overnight guests in the bay.

According to Mr. Ha, both the ship and the waiting room need to be reinforced and cleaned, while the ship will also undergo repairs. The company is planning to welcome the first international group of visitors after the storm on September 15, but in reality, the ships need more time to repair the damage.

It is estimated that the cost of repairing yachts and tourist boats in Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay is from several hundred million to billions of VND. In addition, the recovery activities caused by the storm are also facing difficulties due to limited communication connections, many mobile broadcasting towers and telecommunication cables have been damaged.

It is expected that the time to overcome the consequences of the storm will be prolonged. This is not very positive news when Vietnam is about to enter the peak season for international visitors.
