The controversy broke out after IFPI (International Recording Industry Federation) announced the list of 20 best-selling albums globally in 2025.
In the list of pure album sales (physical albums and full album downloads), there are 13 albums of Kpop artists that have entered the Top 20. Including albums by Stray Kids, Seventeen, ENHYPEN, TXT, ZEROBASEONE, IVE, G-Dragon, NCT Wish, aespa and BoyNextDoor.
However, many netizens are questioning when Jennie's solo album "Ruby" is not on this list.
Previously, some major newspapers and media channels such as Hollywood Reporter, Hits reported that the album "Ruby" released on March 7, 2025 sold 1 million copies in the first week.
Then, in September 2025, some large fan community accounts specializing in updating Jennie's data even spread information that the album "Ruby" had sold 1.4 million copies.

But in the Top 20 albums with the highest net sales in 2025 announced by IFPI, the album ranked 20th, "IVE Secret" by IVE, sold 1.07 million copies.
Audiences believe that if the album "Ruby" surpasses the 1 million copies mark in the first week, then in the remaining 9 months of 2025, it can easily surpass IVE's sales of 1.07 million copies.
Therefore, many people suspect that Jennie's management record label has disguised the first week sales record of the album "Ruby".
Some people pointed out that the first news site to report that the album "Ruby" reached a sales milestone of 1 million copies in its first week used the word "transferred/distributed" instead of "sold", which may imply that this is the number of albums that have been shipped to stores, not the album reaching the final consumer.
However, Jennie's fan community also spoke out to defend the female idol, saying that her absence may be caused by many different factors related to IFPI's year-end list.
Fans suspect Jennie's record label or IFPI's reporting partners have not fully statistically analyzed the album "Ruby", leading to them possibly not being fully reflected in the final annual total sales.
However, the International Recording Industry Federation is a prestigious international organization that has been operating since 1933 and the annual ranking of IFPI is always trusted, so the suspicion about Jennie this time is increasing.
Currently, Jennie, the record label and her management company have not yet spoken out about this controversy.
Meanwhile, in addition to the list of albums with the highest net sales, in the ranking of 20 best-selling albums globally in 2025 in all formats (including physical album sales, downloads and online listens on both free and paid platforms), there are 5 Kpop albums in the list.
Including "Kpop Demon Hunters" - the soundtrack album of the same name (3rd place); "Karma" by Stray Kids (6th place); "Happy Burstday" by Seventeen (12th place); "Desire: Unleash" by ENHYPEN (16th place) and "Rosie" by Rosé (19th place).
